New piggie owner.

Hello! My husband and I got our first guinea pig January 25, a 3-4 month old boy which we named Sirrius. We did get him at a petstore, but when we got him I didn't know there was such things as guinea pig rescues. After we got him I did come online and read a book and learned more about pigs and I've vastly improved from when we first brought him home. I brought him home in a store bought cage, but I made him a 2x4 c&c cage that he loves. He also has plenty of hay, water, chew toys, and fresh veggies everyday. I also found shelter here in Bakersfield California and we're getting Sirrius a companion through there soon.

So, here are some pictures!
Sirrius Black

Thanks and I hope to become an expert on our cute cavy friends.

Re: New piggie owner.

Well he's just incredibly handsome is what he is! And hey - I have that same wood/cross/ball thinggie for my girls! I WISH I had come across this forum 2 years ago when we got our original girl - I would have made changes then instead of now. So good for you and your piggy!!

We love getting new members here and seeing lots of pics - so thanks for sharing. And I cannot stress enough how much this forum and reading through posts/threads has helped me to learn more about a subject I thought I already had been educated on! I'm STILL learning.

Re: New piggie owner.

The Bakersfield Guinea Pig rescue has some really nice people there. I was going to adopt through them in December but found out about of males that needed rehoming so we adopted them instead so my boy Rusty would not be lonely. A friend of mine got her pig from there and she had a good experience.

I got my first few pigs from a petstore. I think some people fail to recognize that it is not well-known that there are so many homeless guinea pigs because if I had known, I would have adopted sooner. I used to do animal rescue and I was in the shelters at least once a week for about 2 years and never once saw a Guinea Pig. Then I found this site quite awhile back and realized that there was a big problem. This site is great for learning about great care for your Guinea Pigs.
