Miss Little Piggy It's been about two weeks since Miss Little Piggy has joined our family. She's an absolute cuttie. In pictures, she's climbing my wife's stomach. And another one is when she's chilling in her new PVC tube. I bought white one which is better looking then the black one. And it's thinner then black one so it's lighter, not that that matters much. I told my wite she likes her abs cuz it's cushy... and she gave me 'the look'. She and piggy both.Well, She's female piggy, should've known that she'll take her side. Two questions that just popped up in my mind. In the pic with piggy in the pipe, if you can tell, her nails aren't too long now are they? I'm thinking about waiting another two weeks or so before I cut her nails first time. She's about 2 monthes old now. I guess the pic is too small to see, I'll take upclose pic of her nails and upload later or something. Another one, is there a dedicated picture section where users upload pictures of their piggies? You would think that forum like this, that kind of section exists. I didn't see one in picture section.Last edited by danny80 : 02-11-07 at 05:48 am.

Re: Miss Little Piggy Aww, she has very pretty colourings. We trim our piggies nails every 1 or 2 weeks, some of our girls have faster growing nails than others but it helps to get them used to the nail trimming procedure. Also, by doing it a little more often you can get the quick to recede giving them shorter and more comfortable nails. For pigtures of your girl you could put a thread in About Guinea Pigs to show off your girl

Re: Miss Little Piggy She's very pretty. I couldn't see her nails, but I'm sure there are photos on here or somewhere on line of healthy nails you can use to compare. Here is some info that may be useful on nail trimming: http://www.guinealynx.info/nails.html I haven't done this myself yet, but I have a vet visit planned and I'm going to ask the doctor to show me the proper way of doing it. I;m glad everything is working out well for you. Do you think you'll get her a friend? It's exciting to see two of them interact together, as they become even more active and happy, playing little games and going to each other for comfort and so on.

Re: Miss Little Piggy What a beautiful girl. I love her markings and she looks like a real sweetie! I wish mine would use their PVC pipe. I think they're afraid of it; they like their hammock much better! I can't really see her nails, but check out the link Terekins posted. That should give you a good idea. Nail clipping is pretty easy. I would suggest give them a diversion veggie or wrapping them in a towel - "burrito" style. Black nails are a bit harder, so with those I just cut off the tips. I really only clip my girls' nails every month, perhaps three weeks. They just don't grow as fast as other pigs'; none of them are long or curled. I think sometimes it depends on the pig. As far as pigtures go, there isn't a gallery here because the photo gallery is dedicated to pigtures of C&C cages. You can, however, make a pigture thread about your girl, or join on Ly's photo site to post piggy pigtures. Cavy Gallery

Re: Miss Little Piggy I get mine at Home Depot. Any home improvement store should have it, as well as some department stores, or even outdoor supply stores. Check Home Depot, Lowe's, Walmart, Tractor Supply, etc.

Re: Miss Little Piggy Thank you all for kind/informative replies. Appreciate it. PVC pipe was purchased at RONA but you could find them any hardware store. I bought three pieces for about 10 CAD. Place like ROMA/HomeDepot have left over wood from cutting wood into certain shape and size. I saw a pile of left over woods, they didn't mind me taking them, so I picked out couple of rectangular wooden blocks from there for free as well. Piggy chew on it. Or you could build simply structure for her to play/advanture around as well. Nail clipping link, I appreciate it. (Tho I've already read it) I am thinking about gettting her friend, she seems to get bored during day when I'm not around. I'm doing some research on adoption and proper way of introducing new piggy to exsisting piggy. (I know they can get territorial sometimes.) If anyone know any useful info about this, I would appreciate it as well. I'm doing research myself, but things could slip through my fingers I suppose.

Re: Miss Little Piggy Jenah, pretty much any hardware store will carry them. I tried Walmart first but they don't have them (not here anyway). You can buy some pieces that connect, but you can also just use a couple of pieces of electrical tape to keep pieces together. It's easily removable and reusable, so I make a new arrangement every night at Poop Sweep Time. I buy the 4" ones, and they're about $3 a piece CAD.

Re: Miss Little Piggy Her nails look fine to me, they can definitely wait another 2 weeks to be trimmed. She is young enough now, that there really isn't going to be a lot of length to cut from them, the main thing is just snipping off the very tips to keep the quick from growing too long--it will save you headaches in the long run. I never did cut my 3 babies nails until they were 10 weeks old because the nails were so short I wanted some "breathing" room between the nail and the quik for my sanity of trying to cut them. With her being a young sow, now is probably a prime time to introduce a buddy. She is young enough to not be such a "threat" to another pigs dominance, and being a baby she is probably going to be pretty accepting of a "mother figure". Good luck! She sure is cute!
