I just got a piggy a couple months ago. I did my research, so I know all about them. She had babies 4 days ago. Three healthy little babies. ![]() ![]()

Re: Hi! I just joined! New to the piggy loving family! You want to double up the grids (or wire mesh) so the babies can't accidentally fall out. As it is one of them could just go right through the holes in the sides. You can also surround the cage with cardboard to help keep the babies safe. The babies sure are cute! Welcome to the forum!

Re: Hi! I just joined! New to the piggy loving family! Wow, I never realized how easily they could get through the holes. I will be sure to fix that. Thanks! I know, they are dolls!

Re: Hi! I just joined! New to the piggy loving family! That is a great cage! Did you make it yourself? What are the dimentions? Your piggies are so cute! What are their names? Have you figured out if the babies are boys or girls yet? You can use this page to help if you havent.. Guinea Lynx :: Sexing Pups If you need some ideas for keeping the babies from falling out through the holes, you can use some towels or other material and clip it halfway up the sides.

Re: Hi! I just joined! New to the piggy loving family! ![]() ![]() Ok, made a few more changes. The babies are males. All three. The mom is Pinky, and the babies are Peepo, Rosco, and Squeaker. My dad built the actual cage, and I helped to put the toys and stuff in it. The dimensions are 8' x 4', but we're going to split it when we have to seperate the males from females. And I put up some wire to keep the babies from falling through. And we are going to put up a little door thing in the front, where there isn't doubled up wire.

Re: Hi! I just joined! New to the piggy loving family! Your cage looks very neat and tidy. Also welcome. But I just have a quick question: I am not 100% sure if I see an adult guinea pig in the litter box from what I see in the pictures but are you aware that the mother and the 3 male babies must be seperated eventually? Maybe somone else that is more educated on this topic can help me out but I think you have to seperate them in weeks or months. If they were born only 4 days ago you shouldn't have to worry for a while. Because the males and mom can breed together and you don't want that. I'm just clarifying this because you made a nice cage but will need to have another for the seperation.

Re: Hi! I just joined! New to the piggy loving family! Hello and welcome to the forums! Very cute momma pig and pups! Nice cage, too; glad you baby-proofed it! As far as the seperating goes, they need to be seperated at three weeks so they don't impregnate mum. And when you divide up the cage, be positive there is no way the pups can get back in with mum. And don't forget to get momma another buddy too! Also, I just wondered what kinds of tree branches are in there with them. Many are not safe for pigs, especially if they have pesticides on them (some apple tree branches are okay). And, have you sterilized the pinecones? Pinecones need to be backed at 200 degrees F for at least 30min to sterilize them and dry out all the sap. Anyways, welcome again! Can't wait for more pigtures of your new family! See you around!

Re: Hi! I just joined! New to the piggy loving family! The hay is in the hay rack. I am going to the store today to get more. I know about seperating them, and I have a divider for the cage made where they can't get through. The wood is apple wood, and yes I sterilized the pine cones. I will be getting more pictures of all the piggies.

Re: Hi! I just joined! New to the piggy loving family! Oh and I have a question. If I seperate the cage long ways, each side will be 2' x 8'. And if I seperate in the middle, it will be 4' x 4'. Which is better? Or should I just build another cage for them? Because I am ok with losing some of the stuff in my room to make a better living space for them.

Re: Hi! I just joined! New to the piggy loving family! Cute pups! Since you have the cage against a wall, I would split it down the middle so that it's 4x4. I'm thinking if you split it long ways it is going to be hard to pick up the pigs who are in the section against the wall. They will run to the middle and you won't be able to reach them. Nice cage, what did you make your cage bottom out of?

Re: Hi! I just joined! New to the piggy loving family! Ok, that's what I was thinking too. Plyboard I think. My dad actually made it. And feel free everyone to put your pigtures on here! I want to see other people's guinea pigs and cages.
