Smile Ontario, Canada Newbies

Hello!

Jordan (ChinDad) and I (CavyMom) are new to this forum, and just wanted to say hello!

We have two guinea pigs (Arthur and Belvedere) in a 2'x4' variant on a C&C cage. We also have three chinchillas (Melvyn, Finnigan, and Smoke) as well as about 10 hermit crabs (the little blighters are hard to keep track of with all their shell changes! ) We plan on moving in the new year to a house, where we will have a room dedicated to just our critters. (Jordan keeps threatening to write "SPOILED" across my forehead!)

So hello, from all of us here!

-Jordan & Chantal
...in Canada, eh?

Re: Ontario, Canada Newbies

Good to see another Canadian Eh!!!!

I am also spoiled...........I have four skin children all under the age of 9 years and when I asked to have another baby I got 2 cats, followed by a dog. My oldest son had a hamster Mr. Nibbles (may he rest in peace) and now we have two little piggie girls, Rosie and Ella!!!

My husband thinks we should buy a house out on the funny farm to house all my little critters. My answer was "So when can we move?!?"

Would love to see pigtures of your gang!

Love to provide "pigtures" but unfortunately we're lacking a camera these days. Wanna do the kids justice and all that jazz. Maybe the next time my mother comes for a visit?

Hi and wlecome to the forum! Good to see another Canadian . Let us know if you need help finding any supplies or places to adopt or anything in the area!

I live in Hamilton, and have three pig - two skinny boars Costanza and Tanuki, and a Silkie/American spayed girl Maci. Who all live separate right now...

Re: Ontario, Canada Newbies

Actually, that was the one big question I had.

If properly introduced, are Skinnies compatible with regular furry cavies in our climate (we're just a skip and a jump north)

Re: Ontario, Canada Newbies

Welcome to the forum, from another forum newbie.
You must have a lot of fun with all those pets.

My wife and I have 1 Cavy (Mecha), 3 babies (unnamed) and a dog.

We are newbies with Cavies and were very surprised when we discovered that Mecha was pregnant.
The babies were just born last saturday.

Once money allows, I plan to buy a bigger cage. We have them on a 40x14 cage (or thereabouts). It is only about 4.5 Square feet. Wich is not enough even for one. The funny thing.. is that we bought that bigger cage even before we knew that she was pregant, so it is a good thing we did. The "starter cage" we were sold is extremely small.

We are still a little undecided on which Cavies we are going to keep and what which we are going to give away.

Talked to a vet today and she told me that the best thing is to prepare the boys.. but that one has to wait until they are 5 months to prepare them. Not sure on the sexes yet, but hopefully the vet will tell me tomorrow. My wife looked at a site and we believe we have 1 boy and 2 girls.

Re: Ontario, Canada Newbies

CavyMom, yes furries and skinnies are compatible. jdomans had a herd of ten, two of them are skinnies.

If you want a skinny, please choose to adopt. There are often skinnies available in southern Ontario. We don't want to encourage breeding them any longer. I know of one skinny girl in rescue in the area that is pregnant. I've already suggested that one of the babies, if there is a boy, be named Dr. Phil .

Re: Ontario, Canada Newbies

We have boys right now, and only room for our 2x3 ... when we move in February, they'll have their own room, and I'll probably bat my eyes at ChinDad for a skinny for my birthday shortly thereafter. I was hoping for one with a rusty/red moustache - I think they look like little irishmen!

Definitely will keep an eye out for rescues - we just rescued two chinchillas last weekend.

So much love, so little time....That's no complaint!
