Smile My new addition - Tiger Teddy!

Hello Everyone, just wanted to introduce my new addition. I just adopted Tiger on Saturday from SlapMaxwell. She was nice enough to meet me half way from where I live. She is about a year old and weighs 2 pounds and 2 ounces. She has a great personality, very curious, loves hay and also loves to cuddle while i watch tv.She has been quarantined and treated for mites.

Here are some pics of her:
my-new-addition-tiger-teddy-tiger2.jpg Here she is posing like a cutie!
my-new-addition-tiger-teddy-tiger.jpg Getting weigh!
my-new-addition-tiger-teddy-tiger3.jpg Here with Pebbles!
my-new-addition-tiger-teddy-tiger4.jpg Sharing a salad with Capu and Pebbles.

The sad part is that I tried introductions with my girls and it did not go well at all. My Capu is very territorial and she always nips Pebbles for no reason. When i tried on Saturday she was nipping Capu and there where tufts of hairs pulled, teeth chattering and hising but on Sunday it went pretty bad. After they finished their salad Capu and Tiger got into a fight that was difficult to separate them. They were locked with each other. After I separated them, Capu was all shooked up and was shaking like crazy. I calmed her down and now they are separated with a wall grid divider. Capu and Pebbles are together and Tiger is alone. I noticed that Tiger sits next to where Capu and Pebbles are. I can see that she wants to be with them. I might try introductions again in couple days and see what happens.

Re: My new addition - Tiger Teddy!

She is too cute! I adore teddys. I would keep the divider in the cage for a few weeks so they get a chance to get used to eachother safely, then try re-intros. My boys went through a weird phase and that worked for me.

Re: My new addition - Tiger Teddy!

I'm a huge fan of the 'buddy bath'. I also had troubles upon initial introductions on neutral territory. They even rumbled through the divider at each other. I finally turned to the bath and it worked wonders. I would never have believed it could go so smoothly after what I went through initially. I've used it twice now. I introduced my teddy, Mildy, to bonded sisters that are much older and it worked. I then added my abby, Flo, to the mix a few months after that. I now have a happy little herd of 4.
Good luck. Your pigs are adorable.

Re: My new addition - Tiger Teddy!

She is beautiful! I agree with fourwabbys - let them get used to eachother with the divider between them first.

I've recently adopted Mellow and Emm, and they were in a divided cage for a week before intros on neutral territory. I decided to try as soon as a week, because they had pretty much ignored eachother after initial teeth chattering etc. The whole story is here: http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ghlight=Mellow, but to keep it short, it took a good 24 hours, changes of venue, a buddy bath and a fretful weekend from me to get them settled!

Re: My new addition - Tiger Teddy!

Thanks everyone. I did try buddy bath after the first intro and needless to say it did not work at all. Capu hates baths so it was hard having Capu in the tub since she wouldn't stop climbing in my arms. I will try later on with another intro. since i see that Tiger wants to be with Capu and Pebbles. She never stops looking for them through the divider.

Howie - Do you have any pics of your Teddy. I would like to see her twin!

Re: My new addition - Tiger Teddy!

Wow, I can't belived I missed this. Congrats on adopting little Tiger. I'm glad Slap found her a good home. Poor little girl had a rough start in life.

Slap had mentioned that she was having hard time getting along with the piggie she was rescued with, Rosie. Maybe she's just used to being on guard and in her mind it's safter to attck first. I'm sure time will help.

Good luck.

Re: My new addition - Tiger Teddy!

Thanks so much for posting pictures CapuPebbles!

I am sorry things are rough with intros. Tiger was always beat up on by Rosie so I am not sure if she is having trouble with that. Keep me updated.
