New from Memphis TN area

Greetings,

I've been looking at building a cage for my piggies since I completed my ferret cage. My pigs are all rescues from children that either didn't pay attention to them or mistreated them. Due to a mistake of putting a sad male with a female I know have a number of piggies that could use new loving homes. I'm here for advice on building, caring, and for entertaining my pigs. They are very sweet and love their hay.

We have a number of pets in our house that make up a very different home. We have a Chinchilla, Cat, Ferret, and piggies. The cat was found in my girlfriends engine bay at work on a cold winter morning. We took him in and got him healthy to give to my dad since his cat passed away last spring. But the ferret and the cat became best friends and we couldn't think of taking them apart.

I'm here to learn, make friends, and share my interests with others.

Now on to the goodies! (Pictures)

Our three year old Chinchilla ChinChin. If you have one you know why I have to hold him. He is quicker that lightning and will only go back to his cage when he is ready!

Our two year old ferret VTEC. Man if you want a pet that is super nosey and loves to play hide and go seek this is the pet for you. I spend at least two hours a week looking for something he has hidden from me. If it isn't my in soles from my shoes its my wallet! He plays with the cat till they both just fall asleep. The Chinchilla likes to pick on him when he runs by.

This is our cat Winky. He got that name because of a eye infection he had as a baby causing him to wink one eye all the time. Picture above is just bad timing on my part no related to the infection he had. He enjoys playing with the ferret and making a scratching post of my leather couch. He was a rescue.

Now to the piggies.

This is one of the moms her name is Whitey. She was given to us by a co-worker that could no longer take care of her. She enjoys whisling everytime I move so I'll come over and she can lick me. She's the sweetest pet I've ever had!

This is Sissy, she got the name because she runs from everything! We got her from a couple that thought it would be a good idea to get a pet for their 8 year old. She had a much older cage mate that passed away a year ago. We were lucky to get Whitey and she has been happy ever since.

This is the daddy! His name is Brownie. We were given him by a lady with a young boy. He was picked on and very depressed. We mistakingly put him with the females to cheer him up and well he got a little too cheerful.

These are the babies they are just over two months old.

The baby males. If you can tell one is missing an ear due to the mom being a little rough while cleaning them.

But he is in good health and loves to pop all over the cage!

The baby females. They are very sweet but a little shy right now. They enjoy doing laps and eatting hay!

I'm sure some of you will be upset with what I let happen but it was a mistake that I already know was wrong and don't want to be constantly reminded of. The here and now is what is important and that is making all my babies very happy. We are going to build them a huge cage once we locate someone that deals with consumers and sells coroplast.

He's really sweet loves his tummy scratched and his treats. Just don't leave the cage up, he loves to climb around and leave his little surprises everywhere.

Welcome aboard. All your animals look adorable and well cared for. I love all of them! The orange and white male aby's are just too gorgeous for words. As is Brownie. You're so lucky to have such a handsome little zoo there.

Welcome to the forum. I just love your zoo. I wish my hubby was an animal lover cause I'd like to get some other animals including 2 dogs, a cat, a chinchilla and maybe a pair of bunnies. I'd need a whole room just for most of them.

As far as roommates for your piggies, I'd try introducing the baby boys to house with daddy and the baby girls to house with mom & the other girly. You could make a 2 story cage with girls on the bottom and boys on top. That way it doesn't take up too much room to have 2 "separate" cages. I'm sure if you check the galleries you can find some good ideas.

All the girls are together already. I was under the impression that the daddy was too old to be put with the two babies. If that would work out I have a whole wall I could make a long cage on and keep them all.

We made a cage today for the females and placed all the males together. No fighting just alot of mounting, very amusing.

I am in the Memphis area as well; Bartlett, actually. There is a place in Hickory Hill that sells coroplast for 12.50 a sheet; 25 minimum order. There is also a woman in Somerville wh can get coroplast for 10 a sheet no minimum but that is a very long drive from West Memphis. I'd offer to transport to downtown since I work down here but I don't have a vehicle large enough to get a whole sheet in. Could perhaps borrow my dad's car and bring it down rolled up if you don't mind a few creases or bent corners.

If you are buying KM's hay I am trying to get together several cavy lovers from the area to order together to save on shipping. Let me know if you are interested. We will probably be placing an order in early August.

I have a really small car also (Miata), I guess I could roll it up and drive with the top down. Just finding a place open after work.

Yea we got off work, came home and noticed she didn't run out of her house. She wasn't breathing very much so we rushed to the vet but it was to late. They put her on oxygen but she didn't make it. She was enjoying her new cage yesterday noon didn't notice anything wrong.
