Courtney's mom

Hello my name is Dee, and I recently bought 2 pigs for my daughter Courtney who is 11yrs. Their names are Oreo and Butterfingers, they seemed to be doing fine except Oreo walks on three legs instead of four I think he must have hurt himself and his nose seems to be a little flakey. Any suggestions, We are new to this.

Re: Courtney's mom

First, welcome and we LOVE to see pig-tures of your GPs!

I'd take him to the vet to find out why he is limping. It can be anything from an injury to a condition called bumble foot that should be treated. Also, scaly skin may mean a skin parasite.

What kind of cage do you have for them? Make sure they are not being kept in a cage with a wire floor - that will make foot problems worse.

Welcome! There is lots of great information on this forum.

Welcome to the forum. Any pigtures of your piggies?

I would take the pig to a cavy savvy vet as soon as possible.

Welcome to the forum.

Please consider adoption, rather than purchase, the next time you're in a position to add animals to your family. There are thousands of homeless guinea pigs waiting for new homes.

Re: Courtney's mom

Welcome to the forum! I hope you get Oreo treated soon. If he's limping it obviously hurts him to walk on it, and a pig in pain needs a vet. The vet should also be able to determine what the "flaky nose" problem is.

Re: Courtney's mom

The flakey nose problem sounds like a fungus. They usually start on the face. As for the foot, I would get him treated soon by a vet that treats exotics.
