Re: Meet my sweetie~pie Sounds like Mocha was trying to play and Cinnamon was trying to hide. Did Mocha make any noises when she rocked back and forth? She could have been rumbling to try and show her dominance.

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie Nope their not odd, just normal happy piggies. Mocha is playing with Cinammon. "Run, run, run.... I see you Cinammon!... Run, run, run!" When Mocha's hing legs rocks and she rubs up against Cinammon it's called rumblestruting. She's showing Cinammon that "Mocha's boss of this cage!" Cinammon may ever do it back to her. Mine do it to each other even more when they're in heat! (The drama of heat day!) All perfectly normal, happy piggy behavior.

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie OoO okay thanks for the post back, I started to worry. But no Cinnamon doesn't do it back, Cinnamon is a little dominant... over the food dish... She sits in it and tries to eat and she'll nudge Mocha away, but other than that it's just sisterly love ![]()

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie Okay I don't know exactly where to post this, and I didn't want to make a new thread. Tonight I noticed that Mocha isn't acting herself. She's not eating and when I rustle a bag of hay or rattle a bowl of treats she doesn't get excited like how she used to. He reyes are well they look sleepy compared to Cinnamons which are wide open. She barely moves and she looks like she's lost some weight. I took her out of the cage and let her run on the floor... she just sat there... then I held her in my arms and had her water bottle in the other. She sipped from it for a while. I then gave her some lettuce she ate a few but it took her a while to eat just a small piece where as Cinnamon devoured it... I'm really really really worried. It's 12:00 at night and the vet isn't open till Monday and I don't know what to do! Please give me some signs or advice anything at all! ![]()

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie Do any of you know what could be wrong with her. I had to put one guinea pig down before b/c she stopped eating lost weight and I found out she had a cancer and there was nothing else to be done. It was too late. I really don't want to live through that again...

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie You never know until you see a vet. Maybe there's a problem with her teeth and she just hasn't been getting as much food as she needs? Have you been weighing her regularly? How much weight has she lost?

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie It is impossible to say what could be wrong. It could be any number of things. Do you weight her regularly? If so has she lost weight? I agree that you should call your regular vet. They should have a number of an emergency ve on their answering machine or you can try to find an emergency vet yourself. If you find an emerg vet, or any vet, take with you the list of dangerous meds from Guinea Lynx Guinea Lynx :: Dangerous Medications to make certain the vet doesn't give you something that can harm your GP.

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie I don't have a scale to weight her . I do have a regular vet it's Cumberland valley. I want to get her in there tonight. Her teeth are fine I give her and Cinnamon hay a lot and they also have wood chews and Mocha seems to like them. My last guinea pig we had an xray and her stomach was bloated and you could tell that she hadn't been eating and she wasn't producing any feeces...

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie Is Mocha peeing and pooping normally? It's possible that she has a stomach problem. If you have a kitchen scale even, that would work to weigh her. Anything that shows the weight... Good luck to you and Mocha. Also, welcome to the forum...

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie Hi there, I am also farely new to this forum and am also finding lots of new info for my girls! I have Rosie and Ella my two recscue babies, they are snuggle bums as well. As for the rocking back n forth, my girls do the same. Rosie does it most to Ella but occasionly *sp* it is the other way around. They will purr and rock back and forth while trying to get in closer for some snuggles. My thought is that this is a dominance issue.....I may be wrong but I think that is what they are doing. *Sorry I did not notice page two till after........I hope your little gal is doing better, I would seek a vet ASAP. But by holding her and making heer drink and eat could only be doing good. Keeping you in my thoughts for a speedy recovery!*

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie Oh SimplyLovely, I hope you managed to get to the vet, as it sounds worrying. You are absolutely right to get liquid and food into her, syringe feeding mashed up pellets, mixed with water is another idea. Let us know as soon as you've seen the vet.

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie Hi SimplyLovely17, Is Mocha drooling at all or is the area around her face wet? Even if her front teeth look okay she can have malloclussion with her molars. It's very hard to see these teeth. My Vet had to use his finger and a special light. I had a problem with a guinea pig that was at a shelter I volunteered at, her name was Orchid, and she had malloclussion. She started losing weight and her face was very wet. She tried to eat but the molars had started growing inwards cutting up her tongue and cheek when she tried to bite. It had actually caused a lot of scar tissue and prevented her molars from lining up properly. She had surgery and after that she could eat well. She had to recover at first from the cuts in her cheeks and tongue - poor girl. I put her on Critical Care. Vets usually have this or can provide it for you. It is in a powder form and I mixed it with water and used a syringe. After awhile she ate it out of a bowl but with mixed water in it. It turned into a paste mixture. Sorry here I am spewing out all this information when there has been no diagnosis of your piggie's problem. But if this is what it turns out to be I can give you more information. If you are worried she is not getting enough water you can buy some pedylite juice from a drugstore, it is in the baby section. That will help her to stay hydrated. I highly recommend her going to a Vet's asap. It's so hard when it's on a weekend and everything is closed! But try the emergency Vet and go there. Guinea Pigs can go downhill fast. For now, I would see if you can get a syringe from the drugstore without the needle of course. See if you can get some pedylite into her or even just plain water. Take it very slow when you do this as you don't want her to aspriate and have the liquid enter her lungs. See if she is interested in eating from the syringe. It sounds like she wants to eat, since she tried to eat that piece of lettuce, but either her teeth are bothering her or she is too tired from another illness. I'm so sorry. It's hard to not know what is going on. Please keep us updated. If any of this post doesn't make sense or is confusing let me know and I can further explain. I have just woken up and I hope this makes sense. Take care, Lynn

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie Mocha's doing a bit better. She has no drooling or wetness under the mouth. She's getting back to herself slowly. She's eating a little more. I gave them oranges yesterday and some lettuce this morning. She seems to be doing quite well with that. I did take her to the vet. They said there didn't seem to be anything major wrong with her and asked me if I had another guinea I said yes. They asked if she has dominance in her I said yes. I've beeing keeping an eye on them and I've noticed that whenever Mocha goes to drink or get something to eat from her bowl Cinnamon comes next to her and nudges her away. So I guess she's learned not to eat around her. I've been thinking about investing in a seperate cage but I'm not sure. I've been feeding Mocha outside of the cage and she seems to be doing better. I added a second water bottle and their food bowl is very large so hopefully that will do until I can afford possibly another cage. Until then I have been keeping a very close eye on Mocha just in case.

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie Maybe you could add a second story and then when you feed them put Mocha on the top floor so she can eat in peace for a while.

Re: Meet my sweetie~pie I don't think you need a second cage. the second water bottle is great and go ahead and get another bowl. Cinnamon can't protect it all at the same time. Also she will eventually get worn out trying! you mentioned that Cinnamon sits in the bowl. When you can, get two bird bowls that mount to the cage. They twist on and off for ease of filling. the pigs can't sit in them. They run about $5 a piece I think. ![]()
