Cool new-ish and have some questions!

Hey guys! I joined here not even a month ago, and already i have made a C&C Cage! That shows how much of an influence this site has.

But, alas, i have questions.

In the cage, i use fleece, and i have a couple houses i can put in, a half-log tunnel, PVC pipes, a hay rack, ping-pong balls, an upper level, and can anyone else thing of stuff i need?

Also, my piggy is weird about being around me. Shes really skittish, and when i go to pick her up, she goes into her corner, and i try to pet her, to kind of show her i'm not going to hurt her, but when i go to put my hands underneath her, she whips her head around, and i'm afraid shes going to bite me. She keeps try to smell at my fingers and nibble them a little, because i sometimes hand feed her some of her veggies, but i'm not too worried about that. I haven't put her in her new cage yet, because i just almost finished it today, but i still need to put my fleece down. I think she will be happy in her new, big cage, and i'd really like to adopt another piggy to put in with her. I'm really afraid to say something to my dad, because he yells at me a lot, but i think she will really chill if i get her a friend to live with. Do you guys have any advice?

One more thing, in the night time, i hear these noises that sound like she sneezing, but i'm 95% sure she isn't. She does stuff with her ping pong ball/moves her stuff around, and it might just be the bedding being moved, It could also be her nails on stuff like the side of the cage, or her trying to climb onto her half/log, which she does try a lot, and it sounds like sneezing. Should i be worried about her or just let it go? Because i hear it alot, but i hear it when she does the above things, and they sound like sneezing, but they aren't.

Thanks for your time!

Re: new-ish and have some questions!

Is she a baby? Maisey nibbled my fingers when she was a baby but has stopped. Just speak softly to her and be patient. She will come around. Try offering her pieces of Bell pepper or Timothy hay and hold it while she eats it. She will come to know you and become less skittish. You could try holding her in a towel while holding her close to your chest. Most Cavy's are scared to be picked up but will usually calm down once they are secure. My two girls love it when I stuff a empty paper towel roll with Timothy hay. It keeps them mentally stimulated since they have to work for the hay. They usually eat it first even though they have a whole hay rack full too.

Re: new-ish and have some questions!

I'm very sorry your father yells at you. Perhaps you could very poiltely mention getting a 2nd cavy for yours to have buddy. You could print out information from this sites home on how important it is for Cavy's to be in pairs for a good quality of life. Assure him you will get one of the same sex so that there will be no babies. Good luck with it all and keep us posted.

Re: new-ish and have some questions!

Make sure you put something absorbent, like towels or newspaper under the fleece.

How long have you had your pig? It may just take a whike for her to get used to you.

Good luck convincing your dad to let you get another pig!

Re: new-ish and have some questions!

Thanks, and i have towels and newspaper under the first floor, and the top i put a whole bunch of rags, (old clothes we use as rags) and newspaper, i JUST put her in her new cage, and she didn't act like she liked it. She was doing the purr-y thing, which she usually does when she wants someone to back off or she doesn't like something. I think its because she was used to bedding and i used fleece. I've had her since the beginning of april, and i think i'm going to ask my dad. I showed my mom the toys section of the site, and she thinks its a great idea, but she wants me to say something to my dad. When i do, i'm going to show him that page, too.
