Lauren David, Saul, and two as-yet unnamed guineas

Hello, my name is Lauren. I've been posting on the threads for a little bit now, but hadn't gotten around to introducing myself until now. I live in Lansing, MI, USA and am 22 years old.

I got my two guinea pigs Saul and David from a pet store (though I've since learned the error of my ways). David is a (long-haired) Peruvian with a white head, reddish brown body and a black butt. Saul is an all-black abby.

I currently have another pair of guinea pigs on the way to me right now. Earlier today my boyfriend discovered his aunt had two neglected guinea pigs she wanted to get rid of and had the sense to take them from her and bring them to me.

I have more guinea pigs than I know what to do with these days!

Welcome to the forum. It is so easy to get attached to these little guys and just want to adopt more of them.

Hi! I see we have yet another Michigander (I was born in Allen Park, lived in Grand Rapids for 8 years, and am now going to school in Mt. Pleasant). We mid-west folk really need to plan a pignic sometime. I keep seeing more and more of us. Welcome to the forum.

Lauren,
Even though the new pigs are coming from a relative, quarantine them and have a vet check up as soon as you can. Do you know what they are? M or F?

Re: Lauren David, Saul, and two as-yet unnamed guineas

Some more info on the new guys:

They're males. I'm keeping them separate from my other two pigs for awhile but the two new ones are currently housed together. In part to quarantine them and also because I don't have the time or a cage big enough to house them all together. I might eventually move David in with them, but only after I get a suitable cage together and make sure the new guys aren't sick.

The previous owner is not a relative of mine, just of my boyfriend. If I ever see her face to face again after this, she's going to get it. The new boys were living in a rabbit cage (wire bottom, with a rug covering a 1/3 of the bottom), and being fed rabbit pellets. They had a tiny bag of Timothy hay which they were feed "occasionaly" and fruit seems to have been the main staple of their diet. Their toenails were so overgrown that they curled backwards. When my boyfriend brought them home they had just been put outside to live two days prior. It's has rained and been really windy in those days here in Michigan.

They seem in fairly good health despite all this, though.

One was named Brownie, in spite of the fact he's not any of the same colors as a brownie. That one is the dominant one and as about 3 years old. The other was refered to as "lil' pig" and is closer to 1. I'm not sure if "lil' pig" is his name or if they just called him that because he's, well, a pig on the smallish side. In either case, the names will change soon.

Poor babies. I think it's safe to say that quarantining them together is fine since they've probably been with each other before. I'm glad that you were able to take them in. Good luck. The recommendation for quarantine is 3 weeks to make sure the new boys are illness-free. We'd love to see pics. Good luck.
