Non piggy owner-A problem I hope to fix soon :)

Hello! I've been sorta stalking this forum for a little while now, and finally decided to join. I'm hoping to get my first piggy in a monthish's time, which gives me plenty of time to get a cage set up. Which at the moment is my biggest problem, and the thing most holding me back from getting my guinea. Oh well, hello

I recemend getting two piggies and keeping them in at least a 2X4 c and c cage if you have space bigger is allways better. Guinea pigs will be much happier in a pair as they are herd animals

No I haven't finished the cage yet. The problem at the moment is supplies. I wanted to do a roughly 2'x6' C&C cage, but I can't find the supplies. And yes, I'm planning on a pair, rather than a single guinea, after seeing them interact with each other at the pet store.

Have you try these links on the top menu?

Many users purchase their grids from Bed Bath and Beyond. Mostly because of the coupons readily available.
Coroplast is purchased from sign shops, Lowes, Home Depot and Sabic Polymershapes. Sabic and SOME sign shops is where most users get their coroplast the cheapest.

Lastly, I'd like to stir you away from buying from pet shops. Their lack of care and concern for their animals is sad. Also, due to this lack of care and concern you have a high percentage of getting a sick and possibly missexed guinea pig. The last thing you want is a sick/ or pregnant guinea pig. Do try to find rescues near you. Many guinea pig rescues will work with you and meet you half way if you live too far.

Welcome to the forum. It's great that you've been doing research on pigs before getting yours and good to know that they will be moving straight in to a c&c!

Hmm.. I would love to rescue, but I don't know that I could. I've called every shelter in a 50 mile radius and they only take in cats and dogs. I don't have a car, so I can't go quite as far as would like to be able to :/ I'll look into it though

Also, I don't exactly know how to build a c&c.. I basically was just gonna wait till I had the supplies to do it, and then figure it out. Not sure though.. Probably wind up making my stepdad do it

There are instructions for making a c&c on this site, and videos on youtube. It's really easy and WAY cheaper than buying a pet store cage.
Check out adoption websites to see if there's any pigs looking for homes, or people that have had accidental litters in your area. That's how I got my two boys.
People also advertise pigs looking for homes on this forum
