piggies with skin problem
So I am the mommy of Cooper and Pedro. I had Cooper for about six months before I got Pedro (other brothers didn't work out). When I first got Pedro I noticed that he itched more than Cooper had when I first got him home. I didn't really think anything of it. Now, about three months later, I noticed that Cooper has this spot on his butt that is very sensitive, he bites the towel when you touch it. Pedro's groin area was crusty about three days ago, I decided to look up skin issues. I remembered Cooper's ear being white and flakey a few weeks ago and put the peices together after trying a few things and decided to treat the boys with ivermectiin two days ago. Cooper's butt is still somewhat sensitive and Pedro's wee wee is still alittle crusty( much better though). They both still itch. I miss seeing my babies popcorn and be happy little piggies. I was wondering if the ivermectin will work better once I give them their second dose in a week. Also If one pig is a lot more active than the other, is there a way to get both of them to play. Cooper just sits in the corner (he has done this his whole life) he seems happy, just reminds me of an old man but he is far from one. Could have Pedro brought mites in when he moved in with Cooper?!?
Oh btw, Cooper has scaly skin but Pedro doesn't, Pedro's ear was crusty but I put vaseline on in and it went away. After treating them with ivermectin the other night, I cleaned their cage out with vinegar and threw all of their toys away to be safe. I washed their fleece bed in hot water but am debating on keeping it out until I know for sure the mites are gone. Neither pigs have had hairloss in any areas. I made them a shoebox toy tonight so they have some entertainment until they are better. If any of this helps please let me know: I have recently changed from woodchip bedding to carefresh. I give them timothy hay and orchard grass, they get occasional baths, I have two dogs (don't come in contact with the pigs), and Cooper had diarrhea while I was holding him today and couldn't finish pooping so I cleaned out his anal gland and he seems to be able to poop now
I also give them a variety of green lead lettuce, celery, and carrots (occasional apple)

Re: piggies with skin problem
It can take three to four doses for ivermectin to work, so just be patient.
I wouldn't use vaseline on them. Try cold pressed virgin coconut oil instead.
