Smile New to guinea pig cages

Hi, I'm new to the guinea pig cages site. I have two Guinea pigs Peaches who is 2 and Hershey who is 4 months. They are girls. I them so much! I got Peaches in December. I unknowingly bought a pregnant guinea pig. She had four babies and Hershey is one of them. These are my first guinea pigs so I'm still a little bit new to this. My piggies live in a C&c cage connected to a pet store one. today we made them a huge play pen they played for a long time. The only question I have is what kind of veggies should they eat? I already give them a few I know they can eat. -Peacheshershey

Hello and welcome to the site! We would love to see some pictures of your girls!

Have a look over the wonderful food charts done by Ly&Pigs. It lists all the foods guinea pigs can eat and how often.

Welcome to the forum! Very cute pigs! As far as veggies, the staples of their diets should be 1/8-1/4 slice of bell pepper, a few leaves of green leaf lettuce, and some cilantro per pig per day.

Yes, water bottles are poorly designed and do tend to leak. What I have found is that you need to be sure to fill the water all the way up to the top of the lip of the bottle, where the lid screws on so that no more can even be poured in.

Then close it as far as it will go, then squeeze it so some air (and a little water) comes out to create a seal. That seems to help limit the leaking.

Also, I have found that it will stop some water bottles from leaking if you tap the end a bit after putting it in the cage. Just put it in how you would always do, then reach your hand into the cage and press the little ball at the end about ten times, for me that stops my bottles from leaking, and I no longer have to fill them to the brim to stop the drops.

I have a question, is there a certain kind of grass guinea pigs can eat because I have honestly no idea what kind of grass we have?

Guinea pigs should get an unlimited supply of hay. While grass is a nice treat on a mild day outside, guinea pigs need hay every day. It helps keep their digestive tract moving and helps wear down their teeth from chewing.

KMS Hayloft, Grass Hays & Fortified Feeds From the Valleys of the Pacific Northwest A good source for high quality hay and pellets.

Oxbow Animal Health | Home - another good source.
