Cool Got some babies on the way!

Hi there! I have two piggies who are quite the characters. My boy, Tungsten, is very special to me. I got him at a time in which I really needed him, and we have been through a lot. He melts my heart, and knows just how to milk it! He is an orange and white with smooth short hair and red eyes. I adopted him from a pet store about a month after someone had bought him, took him home, dropped him and broke his leg, and returned him. It took a few weeks of my holding him in a blanket before he learned to trust me. However, he is not, nor has he ever been, aggressive in any way. I've had Tung for a little over a year.

My little girl is the newest addition. Her name is Fluorine (yes, they are both named after periodic elements), and she is just as sweet as can be. She is brown and white with a few rosettes. She loves to snuggle with me and when she purrs, her whole body vibrates. She also gives me kisses and loves to just hang out with me on my shoulder. Fluori is also currently expecting!
I estimate that she is only about a week or so away from delivery, and the babies are moving a ton! She's just now at the point where I can see moving and kicking in her belly. I estimate that there will be two babies, and I'm hoping at least one of them gets Tungsten's red eyes.

So glad to be on here reading about other piggie lovers, they really are the perfect pet. Wish me luck with these upcoming babies!

Here's a pic of my darlings when I first got Fluorine. She is only about 2 months old here!

Hello and welcome to the forum. We are a forum that does love and is passionate about piggies.
Alannanee, Your pigs are very beautiful. I do not know if you are aware that this guinea pig site is a pro rescue, anti petshop and anti breeding site. As you read thru the threads you will see why this is. The owner Teresa Murphy runs a shelter in California.

We will be so glad to share all things piggie with you but not about breeding or any discussion of breeding. You will find much information on the best care possible for the lives of your piggies, including pregnancy.
I do wish you luck on the birth of your new pups. Being I am not aware of how much you know of piggies, you may know tons, so I am just going to give a few suggestions. Do you have a exotic vet standing by in case there is any trouble with the birth? Do you know to remove Tung before the birth so he will not inpregnate Fluorine right after birth. Is Flouoine getting extra calcium and that the babies will need extra calcium?
Feel free to ask any questions. We are here for you and your new babies.

While we're on this subject... Not sure how to tell if guineas are pregnant. Mine, was housed with another female, and an older male... -.- How long did it take you before you got to the point you could definitely tell she was pregnant?

Well done Suzilovespiggie!!!! That was the very first nonthreatening but very factual "hello and breeding is a risk and we don't promote it here on this site" response I've seen. I've read so many mean responses, it's refreshing to see someone handle it nicely and delicately...some people just don't know any better. Crucification before knowledge just seems wrong to me

    AND Hello alannanee! Good luck!

    SeeSpot I totally agree.

Welcome to the forum!! Your pigs are very cute, and congrats on the babies!! As mentioned before, breeding is veeeerrryyy risky, so please don't do it in the future. But I'm sure you didn't know before. Also, you should get Tungsten nuetered As Soon As Possible!!! And remove him from Flourine immediately. We don't want back-to-back pregnancies do we? And if you get him nuetered they can live together! (Unless she has a/some boy(s), then you could have a boy's cage with the dad and the baby boys. Then a girl's cage with the mom and the baby girls. You should never put more than one nuetered boar in a cage w/ sows.

Anyways, we'd love to see more pigtures of the pigs. (Current) And good luck with the babies. Please keep us updated!! And once they came, baby pigtures are a must!!

Re: Got some babies on the way!

The breeding was not intentional. I am familiar with it, and I have done a ton of research since it was figured out. The pair do not house together. They live seperately and socialize through cage bars when they have their floor time. I totally understand that breeding is dangerous, which is why I have taken extra precautions in providing Fluori with proper vitamins and nutrition during his time, and Tung is lined up to be neutered. Thank you all for your kindness, I don't want you to get he wrong idea that I am some crazy pig breeder. I love my piggies and am making the best of the situation that has emerged.

So far I have two C&C cages that are 2x4, but I had to use a lot of weird sized coroplast cuts to get t to fit. I plan to expand based on the number/sex of the babies (boy cage and girl cage). I also crafted a ramp go Tungsten to climb out and back into his cage when I attach it, somethig he's always valued in his previous housing.

Ahhh...glad to know it wasn't intentional. How did it happen though?

Make sure when the babies come, you baby-proof the cages. You can overlap the grids using zip ties, make the coroplast higher, etc. Just please make sure you do it

Can't wait for the pups! And well... the pics! haha
