Question Thread removed without notice?

I was posting on a thread in the Cafe (that I did not start) and it seems to have disappeared. I did not receive any PM about it, but my posts are definitely gone from my profile etc. Is there a bug, or was the thread intentionally removed? Aren't posters normally notified (with an explanation) when their posts are deleted?

Re: Thread removed without notice?

It should be pretty obvious why that thread was removed. We do not allow the kids here to post their age. That thread was all about high school problems. The original poster was notified. We don't notify everyone on a thread when a thread gets removed.

Thanks,
Teresa

Re: Thread removed without notice?

I believe the thread was removed from the board. I'm guessing it was a thread about not liking a school? If so then it was removed because the entire thing was an "under 18" thread. While I'm not the one who moved it I assume the mod who did PMed the originator of the thread about it. In a case like this not every poster will be pmed to explain the disappearance of an entire thread.

Re: Thread removed without notice?

Ah, ok thanks for the reply. I understand your concern for kids posting here, but it's a shame he/she couldn't get the support/help he/she needed here. Even as a parent myself, I find your stance on this overprotective, but better that than the alternative.

The message one gets when trying to follow a link to a new post (from a subscription email) is confusing -- it implies that one's permissions are not adequate to read the post, and that one may have been demoted. I assume the issue is that deleted threads can only be seen by administrators. But it may be helpful to add to that error message the possibility that the thread had been deleted or moved to a forum to which you don't have access.

Re: Thread removed without notice?

You are welcome to PM the originator of that thread to offer further help/support if you wish.

Just so you understand, I have personally belonged to 3 different boards where an underage person was stalked/harassed by an adult member of the forum. In one case a person was physically abused. All because they let their guard down and/or posted their age, thus attracting a predator. They are everywhere and while we may not have much power to stop them we can at least do everything possible to protect people on this forum to the best of our abilities.

And just to be clear, it happened once quite a while ago here--and it all started so very innocently--with an adult woman and progressed from there. Police were involved. You may find it overprotective, but this is NOT a board for kids to hang out and talk about their problems. Myself and my moderators are not prepared and have no desire to deal with these issues. We do take it seriously.

I can't change the error messages in the way you suggest. It's made pretty clear throughout the forum that minors are not allowed to post their ages. Everyone pretty much knows this.
