Moderators

Just curious about something. How does one become a moderator on this forum? What are the requirements?

Thanks!

Re: Moderators

I saw your post in which you criticize Ly's response to a life-threatening cavy illness.

So, I'm curious about why you want to know. Motivation aside, here's the answer.

First, becoming a moderator is driven by need. I don't appoint (ask to commit time and energy) moderators unless I need a moderator. I started out having Treen help me. She became busy. I needed another person to help out. I also needed help moderating the photo galleries. The forum and gallery have evolved.

I look for people skilled in online issues, but more importantly, I look for people who post both here and on GL and a few other sites. I look for style, I look for attitude, I look for knowledge, I look for ethics, I look for education, I look for leadership, I look for longevity. I look for strong alignment with my philosophies and positions. It's very subjective on my part. The positions I take on this forum strike a balance that are tricky to maintain.

I am very, very happy with my current moderators, VJ, Ly, and Salana.

We have a unofficial list of people who we would consider adding as moderators if the need arises in the future. But at the moment, it feels like everyone is able to put in the right amount of time and effort.

Re: Moderators

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if you had some sort of an application or something. I'm trying to help out my sister with a law school project. She's setting up a web site and needs moderators for it.
