I just got a new, bigger sheet of coroplast today to expand my girls cage. I am wondering, though, before I set the new cage up, is there any methods that you have found to be effective in protecting or covering the coroplast? I find it gets very wet, especially in the corners, and sometimes poo will cake to it as well. I was thinking of using a vinyl shower curtain but am clueless as to how to tack it down (not to mention its too small - oops!) Also, is this necessary anyway? I just want this sheet to stay clean and last a long time; it was $55!

Last night Gizzy's cage finally arrived. It is not exactly as I asked but it is not bad. It has been treated to withstand liquids and was treated with a non toxic animal friendly varnish (think varnish is the wrong word but can not figure out the right word in English) The upper level is a bit small to my liking but I will do some modifications where I can.

The inside measurements of the cage is 1.5m x 1.75m or 4.92 Feet x 5.74 Feet
The upper level is only 0.5m x 1.5m or 1.64Feet x 4.92Feet
My friend Freek thought it quite comfy! He helped me bring it in - had to remove my glass doors to get it in! hahaha
My mom will be here this weekend so we can sew the fleece and towel layers to the exact sizes.

I have a 2x4 cage with 2 girls in it. I would like to get more piggies but I am limited on space. If I build a 2x4 2nd level can I get 2 more pigs? My reasoning is... if there were no ramps and I had 2 on the top & 2 on the bottom They would have enough space. So if I add ramps to connect the two levels they would just have more space to run & play & more friends to do it with.

Just kicking around some ideas and looking for input. Thanks in advance!

So I have been toying with the idea of stacking two (two level) 3x6 cages on top one another (so 4 rows of 3x6) but I'm wondering how I would best do this and still be able to easily access (and clean) all parts of the cage ?? I was going to have my cages in separate rooms (one in the living room the other in the family room), but since we are battling odor issues I think it'd be best to have one room stink free that we can relax in. Any ideas how to accomplish this?

Well, I have to rehome two of the guinea pigs I got from a lady on Craigslist a few months ago. One picks on my special needs pig constantly and barbers my oldest (I've offically started calling Pridecity's pigs mine because she won't be able to take them back). The other one, known as Cash, gets into fights with the oldest and I've had to treat an infected bite wound on him. Talk about pus.

Anyway, that will put me down to four guinea pigs and I want to redo the cage. I was thinking of doing another alternative cage, but I need some slight help.

First, I would like to build a stand from wood. It would also possibly serve as a stablizer. My basic idea for it is to have the stand look sort of like a house's frame. I can't really explain it, so I've attached a picture to show it.

In addition to the stand, I was thinking that I would have wood going along the top of the grids to make it more stable. I have two small dogs who try to jump up to see, so it couldn't hurt to make it more stable.

Here is a representation of what I mean:

I forgot to add the wood that would go along the width so that the grids don't sag.

Once the wood is set up, the grids would be set up like a normal C&C cage. Then, a coroplast tray would be dropped in. The grids would be behind the wood, when looking at the cage, meaning that the wood would technically be on the outside of the cage.

I was thinking then to add the fleece, and an upper level. That is also where the stability from the wood comes in.

What type of wood is safe for pigs?

I have searched all the old posts about odor control but have not found anything tremendously helpful or new as far as advice goes. I am using fleece with several layers of towels under as my bedding and it seems almost instantly after putting the piggers in their freshly cleaned cage there is an odor again! Granted I have a stronger sense of smell but my poor husband, who has broken his nose so many times he can hardly smell at all, is even complaining of a certain "stink" from their cage. I am going to try some Zorb fabric but I am not certain that alone will fix this problem. I do not want to use loose bedding (aspen/kiln dried pine) because it would be EVERYWHERE in my house. I clean out the poops in their cage at LEAST 2-3 times a day and change their entire bedding every 5-6 days. I clean their cage each time with a vinegar/water solution. Their cage is most definitely large enough (3x6 with 4 pigs) so I don't see why I am having this problem!? I am soo tired of my house smelling like a petshop. Thanks in advance for your help!

Good Morning Forum, :)

I came across this website just this morning, I've been looking into building a new cage for my two female Guinea Pigs (Bubble and Squeak)

They've come indoors for the winter, unfortunately the cage they're in was bought for me as a gift ( Cavie 80 Guinea Pig Cage by Ferplast | Pets at Home ) as you will see it's no where near big enough.

What I'm looking for is any advice or pictures if people have some, of ways to build a c&c cage around their current cage. I have space ready for a two tier 3 by 3 cage. However it needs to somehow include the above cage! :?:

Thanks in advance,

Amanda. :cheerful:
