I want to buy timothy hay from American Pet Diner - should I get the first or second cut Timothy hay?

Love that hay!

We got the hay from APD and the girls love it! They go through it so fast! It doesn't have any "heads" in it though, like the store bought hay, and they loved the heads - wonder if that's what second cut means? Who knows??

I have never shopped with American Pet Diner before, but I plan to soon since I've heard lots of good on their hay and pellet products. I was visiting their site the other day, and the ordering looks a bit difficult, but oh well!

Hay

Hey SuperCavyLover, the ordering wasn't hard. You can either email them the information they ask for, or give them a call. We got our hay in a few days. The shipping was almost as much as the hay because we only got 5lbs, but you could order a lot more!

Re: Hay

Yes, 2nd cut doesn't have the seed heads. The first cut went through and cut the hay, taking stalks and tops, leaving stalks. The 2nd cut goes back through and gets just the stalks (or whatever the right word is).

I would personally never order less than 25 pounds. Properly stored, hay can keep for a long time.

How do you properly store your hay?

You want to store it opened so that air can circulate through it. As you use it out of the box/bag/container...fluff it up to air out dust, moisture, etc.

Don't keep it in a closet, or enclosed space, where it cannot stay dry.
