    Leaf Lettuce

I currently feed red and green leaf lettuce. I rotate them every week. And give them everyday. I'd like to know what other leaf lettuce can I give daily.

Romaine doesn't sit well with Mr. Whistles.

Butter/boston, endive, escarole, watercress are good choices. I also like the organic spring mix that has a great variety, too. It's a good mix and it's ready so you don't have to think about lettuce mix and variety. It's a regular staple here.

    Re: Leaf Lettuce

just out of curiosity @MrWhistles -are you looking for different kinds of lettuce to add variety?

i know way back when i was worried about my dog being "bored" with the same old treats and food, and was told that dogs "don't get bored" like we humans do. i suppose if you think about their wild ancestors, they ate pretty much the same animals day in and day out.

i have often wondered whether pigs get bored with their food, and decided they probably don't as well for much the same reasons as dogs. but in terms of making sure they get a well-rounded choice of veggies for the nutritional value, that makes sense.

my guys are so picky tho (like many of our pigs), i have a good range of choices for them and every once in a while try to introduce a new veggie to them. after so many months of the veggies carousel, i pretty much stick with what works. not to mention that i probably spend more time and money on their veggies than on my own diet. i look for which lettuces aside from red and green leaf are either on sale, or lower priced. sometimes watercress is priced out of my budget, so they don't get any that week. and, of course, they have the lion's share of the space in my refrigerator!

sorry, that was more than you asked for @MrWhistles - i just couldn't help myself!

Watercress gives my pigs calcium urine very quickly so I wouldn't give it daily. Green cos lettuce is ok too

I was just looking into something new for him to try. This week he is trying Raspberries on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. So I figured why not add a new leaf lettuce for him to try.

You're free to speak your mind. I enjoy the extra reads and possibly new information hidden. Thanks!
