why does my GP make a mush mess of his pellets?

A lot of times I find that my piggie has only half eaten his pellets. There is always this pile of mush in there like he chewed it and spit it out. It almost looks like the water bottle is dripping into it, but it's not under it. Does anyone else find their GP doing this? What's the deal?

MY pigs do that. At night when they get bored ith the pellets they have them dump them, play with them, chew them and spit them out.

No big deal. I started giving them less and just throwing out a yucky stuff.

    Cute avatar by the way

I had that problem until i switched from a bowl to a feeder bin. It attatches to the side of the cage and has a mesh bottom for crumbly bits to fall through, leaving only clean bits for piggy to eat. Place it just high enough for piggy to reach, and it keeps food from soiled bedding & other debris. Some of it is just slobber!

Guinea pigs are only supposed to have 2oz of pellets a day, I believe. Don't fill the bin feeder, it can cause them to overeat and get chubby.

I think someone should set up a piggy web cam to see what's going on!

Some pigs are what we in the horse world call "dunkers". They take a bite of food, then get a drink. I wonder if there's still water that drips out in the pellet dish.

Some pigs with dental problems will produce a lot of saliva when chewing pellets.

Some pigs do poop in their dishes, and maybe pee as well.
