    Picky eater?

Trying to introduce a varied diet is quite complicated, . Here is the list of what i have fed her. Do you have any advice?

She loves: apples, apricots, radicchio, carrot, likes timothy, general salad greens

Sort of picks at: bananas, celery, boston lettuce

    Won't touch: kale, cucumbers, tomatoes

She only eats parts of the pellets.

So you can see that most of what I have given her she does not like. Even some of the fresh mixed salad greens she would not eat. I am wasting sooo much food! I thought these beasts were supposed to love greens and veggies? She just prefers fruit!

Cut waaay back on the fruit. A small piece once or twice a week is more than enough. One baby carrot per day should be the limit.

You can teach them to eat veggies by picking one vegetable, chopping it very fine, and sprinkling it on her pellets. She'll get enough by accident to get accustomed to the taste, and then you can feed it in larger pieces. Do one vegetable for a week, then give her a bigger piece. If she eats it, go on to another veggie. If not, continue with that one for another week.

Bell peppers are great sources of vitamin C, and if she eats any greens at all, I'd start with the peppers. If not, start with red or green leaf lettuce. Skip the banana altogether -- it's constipating. Cucumbers should be fed very sparingly, as they cause gas.

See this link for what can be fed and how often: http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ants-list.html

She's doing better than my boar... Snowy will only pick at lettuce and eat spinach, hay, grass and carrots. I've tried cillantro, tomatoes, bananas, cucumbers and other things I can't remember right now LOL

    Cool Not Picky eater

Guinea pigs should not have too much fruit. My not very professional opinion is to give her pellets, timothy hay, and salad greens, that and only that for the next three days. her problem is that if she has a choice between fruits and veggies, she will pick the fruit. fruits are a TREAT, not something to be in a regular meal.

No corn husks or chives either. Although I just read that chives are on don't eat list, so that is fine. She gets 1 baby carrot every other day but her fruit is way more than what you guys recommend.

Why is there not to be much fruit? I'll ahve to look that up again. I will get bell peppers -the green ones?

Fruit has a high sugar content the guinea pigs should not consume frequently.
