    UGH! So allergic :(

As soon as i opened the bag of hay, I started sneezing like CRAZY and my eyes were watering very badly. I actually never realized I was so allergic to hay until now. My guinea pigs (and their hay) are in my room, so would an air purifier help?
it bothers me so much! I think that my allergies got a lot worse because their hay is in my room.
    SUGGESTIONS?!
PS: the hay that was messing up my allergies was Kaytee. I know that hay SUCKS, i was just using up the last of that bag and now i have oxbow, which still messes up my allergies!
would ordering bluegrass from KMS help, maybe?

In my experience, absolutely! Look at a couple of my posts where I describe in detail what we went through in order to be able to keep our cavies because my partner was so highly allergic to timothy hay.

Usually someone allergic to hay is less allergic to bluegrass or orchard grass, but not always. It's worth a try, however.

It would help to get the pigs and their hay out of your room. Maybe you can find another family member who is willing to feed them their hay.

Here are some more tips on allergies and what may help--

If you have allergies, it's probably not a good thing to have the pigs in your room. Allergies sort of snowball if you keep being exposed to things you're allergic to, and that's not a good idea. If you can move them somewhere else, that would be better.

In the meantime, you can put a mask on, a long-sleeved shirt and gloves, and fill lunch-sized paper bags with the hay. Better yet, get someone else who's not allergic to do it for you. Then when you need to feed again, just put the bag(s) in the cage. That will cut down on some of the exposure.
