Is it ok to use dish soap during the weekly "big clean" of a water bottle?

I feel funny asking this, but the previous owners told me only to use hot water, the brush and a Q-tip (for inside the metal part) to clean the water bottl. However, they were not as knowledgeable when it comes to piggie care as I have come to find out.

I also wondered if the plastic of the bottles ever retained taste or residue from the dish soap despite considerable rinsing.

Would really appreciate your response. Thanks.

Yes, use the dishsoap and hot water. I always rinse them very well in cold water because that is what works to get the soap residue off plasticwere! I read it in a magazine years ago. Others might disagree about the cold water rinse but you can do a simple test yourself by drinking from a plastic cup. I did and it really works!

I read somewhere about using rice and cold water to clean the bottles... I personally use dishwashing detergent - I use it on my water bottles and it doesn't leave a funny taste, so I figure it can't be too bad for them. I have 2 water bottles for my piggies. I switch them over each clean so they have a chance to dry out between washes.

I use hot water and rice. I shake rice around in the spout as well.

IMO I wouldn't use dishsoap. I wouldn't want any residue to be left behind. I have a baby bottle scrubber that I use, works great.

I use dish detergent and hot water for mine. Just rinse it really well. It won't leave a taste or residue on the piggy stuff any more than it does on your dishes as long as you get all the soap off.

I put dishwashing liquid and a dash of vinegar in a large plastic bowl filled with hot water. I scrub with a baby bottle brush and use my finger to really get around the inside rim. I use the smaller brush for the spout but also occasionally use pipe cleaners to work right through the whole spout. I keep rinsing until there are no bubbles when I shake the water filled bottles.
