Hi, this is going to be my first post on this forum so be nice Here in sweden where I live hay is just hay. They don't label it as alfalfa or timothy or whatever.. So my question is, can you see what it is by looking at it? If so, how?

Re: Can you see if it's timothy? I'm not sure. I have horses and this is what our timothy hay looks like, and my mom told me that they are timothy heads.

Re: Can you see if it's timothy? First cutting usually has more seed heads and is stalkier. I've heard a few pigs and many rabbits prefer this stuff. Second cutting is like the second mow of the lawn; there are few seed heads, if any, and the hay is softer. Most cavies love it! Third cutting is the third "mow" and is even softer yet! Cavies love it.

Re: Can you see if it's timothy? I have no seed heads in mine either. Alfalfa hay is leafier.
