Alfalfa?

Just a question...but at what age should a young guinea pig stop getting alfalfa?

Re: Alfalfa?

Around 6 months. That's the time to switch them to a good quality grass hay. They can eat oxbow's cavy performance for up to 1 year.

Re: Alfalfa?

Been and still am spring cleaning my house. Right at the moment it looks like a tornado swept through because I am going through things and getting rid of useless crap and sorting clothes to see what I can't wear or don't want anymore. But when I am gone from the forum, I usually check in about every other day or every 3 days at most. You can't keep me away too long!!!

Re: Alfalfa?

And if I am going to get the pig can my three year old get alfalfa? Or would I have to mix timothy and alfalfa?

Re: Alfalfa?

KMs bluegrass/alfalfa is great for young pigs. I would mix that with some timothy.

Re: Alfalfa?

There aren't really any "brands" of alfalfa. It's pretty much all the same. You would definately want to mix 1/3 alfalfa with 2/3 grass hay if you have a 3 year old boar and get a baby. That way the baby gets alfalfa but your older boar won't get much.
