Cool Oxbow hay is fab

Hey everyone. When we brought Mia home, I bought a small bag of Kaytee Timothy to feed her until my Oxbow order came in. Finally it arrived yesterday and let me tell you, I was so impressed with the hay! The Kaytee stuff was really soft and I was thinking "how is this going to wear down her teeth"? The Oxbow is harder and even has those seed head things. Oh and it smells so good! Mia is loving it!
Okay maybe that was lame but I'm extremely happy with the hay! If anyone is trying to decide to buy it or not I say "buy it"!

Re: Oxbow hay is fab

I don't know much about it, but don't the seed heads present a choking hazard? I thought if the hay had any in it, it should be separated out of there. Someone shed some light on this please.

I have never heard of that ever being an issue.

Re: Oxbow hay is fab

If seeds are a choking issue in pellets, why wouldn't they be an issue in hay? Don't the seed heads in hay also have "husks"?
Again, I'm not knowledgeable about this, but instinct would tell me to separate the seed heads...And I'm not trying to start a debate or anything Slap. Please don't feel I'm trying to start something.

Re: Oxbow hay is fab

Are you sure you know what a seed head is?

The pigs chew them up into bits. They are soft.

Re: Oxbow hay is fab

Yes, that's what I was talking about. I didn't realize they were soft, Slap.
Like I said, I wasn't sure if it was a choking hazard or not-I was just looking for some education. I know that if I had to chew on something like that and had a mouth/throat the size of a GP's, I'd be a little concerned about it getting stuck in my throat, that's all.
Thanks for your help.

I am not even 100% sure, but I know I have never heard that anywhere.

I've never heard that either. Oxbow has great hay, by the way!
