Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 Found this mix online, the description of the product says that there's no sugar or artificial colourants in the mix and that it's organic. A quote from their website reads; "The recipe, developed with biologists and veterinarians especially for guinea pigs, contains absolutely no cereals and is ideal as main food for a diet appropriate to the species with its vitamin-C-packed pellets made of 100% herbs". I was wondering if there was anything in this mix that was unhealthy/bad for piggies and therefore if it is OK to give to them. Ingredients: Quad-bits of hay (different meadow grasses such as timothy grass, cocksfoot, ribwort plantain, red clover, meadow fescue, meadow panicle), grass quad-bits (meadow hay, chamomile, nettle, caraway, yarrow), Jerusalem artichoke, dandelion, nettle, carrot, fennel, ribwort, parsnip |

It contains lot of unnecessary ingredients--carrots, fennel, parsnips, etc. You should look for a plain pellet such as Oxbow. |

No pellet mixes ever. They need plain pellets only. Fescue can harbor fungus and several of those ingredients are high in calcium. Many of those things that they are calling hay or grass aren't even hay or grass. They are plants. |

So what, precisely, makes a good plain pellet. As I've had trouble locating anyone that supplies oxbow in the UK. |

Perhaps you can find some options on this UK thread at Guinea Lynx-- http://www.guinealynx.info/forums/viewtopic.php?t=38319 |

You can see if your vet carries Oxbow. Read over the thread already posted. Otherwise, you want something with no colored bits, seeds, corn, dried veggies, etc. Also avoid anything with ethoxyquin. If you post ingredients lists here before buying, we can help you evaluate them. |

I can highly recommend SPH supplies for getting Oxbow products in the UK. They do various Oxbow pellets and hays and even critical care. I've used them since I got my pigs and they have always been brilliant, very quick delivery etc. At times, when I've ordered their hay and they haven't had that size box in stock, they have made up a box for me - giving me more than I should have. Hope its ok to post the link Animal Husbandry Supplies, hygiene Disinfectants, Kennel cattery Supplies Products Just want to add I love your use name! As soon as I read it I guessed that would be a UKer. |
