Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
Hello, someone told me they had guinea pigs years ago, gave them away to some friends who fed them a mountain of cabbage or bok choy (she wasn't sure) and apparently the piggies blew up, like exploded or something??? I was horrified, can this actually happen, I thought cabbage was okay, and bok choy... of course I don't feed in huge quantities, but could this really happen? |

All types of cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale are very gassy. Including bok choy. I don't think a pig could actually explode but you would have a very sick and bloated pig if you gave these foods every day. Cabbages can be fed a maximum of 4 times a week. But personally I limit it to 1-2 times a week. Heres ly's diet chart It's a ll nicely colour coded with comments on each veggie. http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...ants-list.html |

I don't know about the actual exploding but too many cruciferous veggies over a long amount of time would produce serious bloat in pigs. Without treatment, the pigs will die. Even though on the charts it lists some cruciferous veggies in the 2-4 times a week category, that doesn't mean they can be fed up to 4 times per week. Anything that has a side note in the comments that refers to being gassy, feed sparingly, means use your best judgment and don't feed very much, very often. The reasons for it being in the blue category is due to overall content. |
