Grass from lawn mower

Hello, I remember reading that you should never give guinea pigs grass from the lawn mower... Does anyone know why? Is it because it picks up petrol fumes from the mower? Because we have an electric lawn mower & this wouldn't be a problem, or is there some other reason? Thanks.

Re: Grass from lawn mower

Not quite sure why, but I remember reading that cut grass should not be fed after a certain amount of time. You are to discard any grass that has not been cut by a lawnmower. I am sure someone will come on soon and have the right answer for you. Ly knows everything about feeding piggies so she would be the best to ask.

No you can't use mower cuttings. Heres a quote from ly from some time agao and a link to the thread.

Re: Grass from lawn mower

Also here is a post from VJ on that same thread.

Because of the fermentation and gas/petrol fumes, I would avoid feeding grass that has been cut by any type of lawn mower. It's much better to hand pick or cut grass by hand.

Re: Grass from lawn mower

I'm growing some wheat grass inside. It is very easy to grow. You don't need a green thumb at all to grow it !

Re: Grass from lawn mower

I just pull out some gras out the lawn by hand.

And Duffinvt, I wouldn't say so! I got one of those paper things with seeds inside that you plant the whole thing, and I did exactly what the instructions said and nothing. I have to have a lot of skill to do something like that!
