Alfalfa Hay

I am unsure of the age of my piggies. We got them from petco and my husband didn't ask their age. I now have serious doubts they would know anyways being they gave us males and said they were females. Is there anyway I can determ their age?
I have been trying to decide if I should give them Alfalfa hay being I dont know if they are under 6 months old. Any advice? Thank you

Re: Alfalfa Hay

If you got them from petco then they will be babies and need alfalfa hay or an alfalfa based pellet or you could give them veggies with extra calcium.

Re: Alfalfa Hay

if you give them alfalfa pellets then they wont need alfalfa hay but you still need to give unlimited grass hay.

That is not necessarily true. They could be any age. Just because they come from a petstore does not automatically mean they are babies. I've seen many adults in petstores.

I would feed both timothy based pellets and grass hay when in doubt of age. If you also feed the minimum of a cup of veggies per day each that should suit their calcium intake. You can always give a little bit of parsley a couple times per week.

Re: Alfalfa Hay

I would feed Timothy hay and Timothy based pellets. With all grass based hays, age doesn't matter. With Alfalfa hay however, it should be fed only to animals under 6 months of age primarily because of its high calcium content.
