Best hay for piggies prone to sludge/stones

One of my piggies has been having some sludge issues lately. I am taking her to the vet, and I have switched to Kleenmama's pellets. What would be the best hay for her? Right now, I can only order Oxbow for hay, but please let me know if a particular type of Kleenmama's is the very best (for the future). In the meantime, however, what would be the best Oxbow hay?

Re: Best hay for piggies prone to sludge/stones

Most are all similar in calcium content so I don't think it matters that much when it comes to hay.

It's the other part of the diet that has to be modified.

Re: Best hay for piggies prone to sludge/stones

Ly,

There was another thread (not about hay) where I mentioned this problem, and, as I mentioned there, I don't really feed anything high in calcium (I feed green-leaf, red-leaf, Romaine lettuce, peppers of various colors and zucchini, and I just switched from Oxbow to Kleenmama's pellets). I am also buying a filter for my water, just in case that's the problem. Hay seems to be the only other thing I can change. Paula mentioned that orchard grass may be better, but I don't know if Kleenmama's hay is even better, which is why I asked.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Best hay for piggies prone to sludge/stones

Paula has more experience with stones/sludge pigs so if she says Orchard grass then I'd go with her suggestion.

You can always email Linda (KM) and ask her is she knows the calcium content of her timothy hays and bluegrass.

A water filter would be a very good idea.

A water filter as in the Brita jugs that you keep in the fridge?

Re: Best hay for piggies prone to sludge/stones

Have one of those brita pitchers, and that is the water we use for our piggies (we don't have any sludge problems though). I just use that because our piggies, seem to like that super cold water.
