Good brands of Critical Care (Not Oxbow?)

One of my older guinea pigs is not eating and losing weight (as seen in my other thread) and I think that hand feeding would be best until the nearest vet opens on Monday. I called the supply stores nearby, and only one of them carries Oxbow Critical Care, but they're out of stock and won't get any more until Monday. A different place says they carry CC, but not the Oxbow brand. Are there any other good brands that would work in a pinch (until Monday)? I can also make a pellet slurry but I'd rather go with CC to be safe.

(Sorry if this isn't the right forum, but it deals with health so I thought it best. I should have planned ahead in case of this, but I was overconfident... and now I have to fix my mistake.)

Re: Good brands of Critical Care (Not Oxbow?)

Critical Care is a name brand of a product that's made by Oxbow. There may be other brands of handfeeding mix, but there's no Critical Care nto made by Oxbow.

You could put pellet in a coffee grinder or something similar and make them into powder that way. Then, you can add water to the consistency desired.

Re: Good brands of Critical Care (Not Oxbow?)

You don't have to put pellets in a coffee grinder. Just add some warm water or better yet, plain pedialyte to the pellets and let them sit and they will get soft. Then you can add more liquid if needed. For flavoring, you can use a small amount of veggie baby food.

I'd get the Critical Care from your vet on Monday. You can use the pedialyte to mix that up as well.

I'm going to move this to the D&N forum.

Re: Good brands of Critical Care (Not Oxbow?)

Thanks for moving it! I'm going to visit the nearest small animal vet on Monday for CC. As an update, I used water and pellets to make a mash and fed a bit to him through a syringe. It works fine as far as I can tell. Thank you so much for your help guys!

Re: Good brands of Critical Care (Not Oxbow?)

They may have meant another handfeeding supplement but most are not appropriate for guinea pigs. The only other one I'd recommend is the Critter be better one by ADP but it looks like they are not making it right now from their website?
