I got my first shipment of Kleenmama hay and pellets today. I'm blown away!! I put some pellets in their bowl and they dove right in! Then I put some of the hay in (and wow, what a difference in the color and texture) and they immediately ran over and ate, ate, ate! Normally they would nibble on their hay but weren't excited about it. They also started drinking more water after that (I had a previous thread about them not drinking a lot)! Then...one of them started popcorning while the other one ran frantic laps around the hidey house. This was the first time I've seen them popcorn or run around at all! I'm so excited!! |

The first time I got her pellets my pigs seemed to be indifferent to them. Maybe even eating them slower than the Oxbow pellets that they would rarely finish 1/8 - 1/4 cup in 24 hours, so I went back to Oxbow. I ordered them again after a few months and now they can't get enough! Especially my Doc. I've been ordering her hay for a while now. I just got some 3rd cut timothy and it's amazing! I got 35lbs but I may have to start hoarding it so we don't run out before she does |

Is there really such a huge difference from using Oxbow? I am lucky enough to get local fresh hay in small bales and buy the Oxbow pellets and orchard grass. My concern is the cost of shipping but if I can get a large enough amount to offset the cost of her shipping and my piggies will be even happier than they are now it would be worth it. |

Where do you get your pellets? Here is a post where I broke down the costs of Oxbow from several common suppliers vs KM's (for 50lbs. I get 25lbs) http://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/...tml#post440005 If Oxbow ends up being more cost effective for you, it's still a very good pellet. |

I got the 45 lb 3rd cut timothy. The only other hay I've ever used is some stuff from a local store here, I don't even know the name off hand. It only comes in the really small bags. Even with KM's shipping prices, pound for pound it came out cheaper than buying a bunch of the smaller bags that I had been using. |

Can't be done and i even contacted the dept of agriculture in Ireland to see if i can take hay back with me from the u.s . Nope, not unless i have like a zillion certs to say it's been inspected. Such a shame. The only decent hay we have here is Oxbow oat, timothy and botanical hay. I would love my piggies to try they hay that you all have in the u.s . |

I was thinking of that vic. I should have asked the dept if i can take pellets. Posting kg's of pellets would be very expensive. Ebay are selling 40oz Oxbow Orchard Grass from the u.s Cost $10 shipping $25 |

I'm pretty sure you can take them. KM's ships pellets to Canada so why not Ireland? |

Because of EU laws and contamination. Heres just a small section of the email i got. Hay and straw products are regarded as posing a risk to the spread of infectious or contagious diseases to animals and, in accordance with common rules, must be subjected to veterinary checks on their entry into the EU. There are no provisions exempting imports of small quantities of hay and straw as a part of one’s personal baggage or by post for personal use from these entry requirements. The relevant rules and those relating to country of origin are in Council Directive No. 97/78/EC, Regulation (EC) No.136/2004 and Decision No 2007/275/EC - this last providing for the scope of products covered by the veterinary import control arrangements. The following link has information on veterinary import requirements: Import of Animals and Animal Products - Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food |

I too, just got my first shipment from KM, and even though I live in Michigan, with Shipping, I still save I think. I got 5 lbs of 3rd cut Timothy, and 5 lbs of Bluegrass--and it seems like so much. Even though I had to pay shipping, it seems to me, I have more, the girls love it, its fresher, and its better than paying 5 bucks for the smaller bags of Oxbow each time I need some. I may also try Sweet Meadows, just to see the difference and quailty. But I am very happy with KM's and so are my girls! I havent tried the pellets yet, but maybe next time. |

I can keep quiet no longer. I absolutely love KM's 3rd cut timothy, as do my "toadies". I have the box sitting in the living room right now and my steps slow and my breathing becomes deep each time that I walk by the box, the perfume of the hay is intoxicating. Awhile back I gave my boys the choice of Oxbow or KM pellets, mixed together, and they actually picked KM's out of the dish and left the Oxbow. Another plus, which has nothing to do with the superb quality of KM's product, is Linda's superb customer service. As to price, I couldn't always find hay in the stores when I needed it, so the time and gas spent searching (and even when it WAS available) made it much more expensive than just the price of the bag of hay. The convenience of having quality hay at my fingertips is worth every dime. |
