Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

I just wanted to post that I gave the two pigs the Sweetmeadow pellets and they absolutely loved them. Then I put a handful of Sweetmeadow Timothy hay in the cage and a handful of Oxbow Western Timothy. The pigs went right for the Sweetmeadow and ate the whole handful ! It smells great. It is more wiry than the Oxbow hay, which is flat. They pigs seem to prefer it though.

I am not connected to Sweetmeadow in any way, but must say I have been most pleased with their service and products. And the pellets do have stabilized vitamin C in them.

I bought the Guinea Pig mix of 2 Timothy, 2 Meadow hay and one large bag of pellets for a little over $30 which includes the shipping. It will all last a long time !

So, East Coast members, do give them a try.

Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

I've never tried the pellets but did get a 9lb box of meadow hay before. My pigs loved it. Never tried their timothy though.

I then had to try Kleenmama's because of all the buzz and have ordered from her since because they loved the bluegrass. But after adding other types (orchard, 2nd timothy, and 3rd timothy is coming tomorrow) I think my pigs may just like anything that's new After my 35lbs of 3rd cut timothy is gone I think I will give Sweet Meadow another try.

I see you are from Red Sox Nation . Are you near Sweetmeadow? It looks like a neat place to visit. If we go to MA I would like to visit the farm. We have friends from Brookline who have a weekend house next to us here in VT and I'd love to ask them to pick me up some hay if they are ever near Sweetmeadow.

No I'm not. I'm just a huge Sox fan from CT, currently in the New Haven area. I used to live in Bennington, VT when I was little for 4 years while my mom went to SVC. I'm hoping to move to the Boston area one of these days. I love it there!

Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

I am very interested to know more about Sweet Meadow hay and pellets. I'm in NJ and will be adopting 3 girls by the end of the year. (Hopefully.) I was thinking that I was just going to have to buck up and deal with huge shipping costs. Then I saw someone mentioned that Sweet Meadow was on the east coast and I instantly checked out their website. It's SO much cheaper. And if you say that it's good that's great. I will be giving them a try.

I will keep you all posted, but it is a big hit so far. The girls were having floortime when Fedex came in with the box. I continued cleaning the cage and then realized they were being quiet (I am learning guinea pigs are much like little children !) and found them standing up against the box, trying to figure out how to get in it. When I opened it, they would not get out of the way until I gave them some hay. Now, as another posted said, maybe it was the newness of it and perhaps it is a lot fresher than what's been sitting in the petstore. Probably any good hay would be accepted, even nice hay from a horse farm. But the shipping was what sealed the deal for me. I need to keep my costs down as the guinea pigs are really expensive little buggers to feed properly !

Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

I ordered that Guinea Pig Grab package also, I'm in NC, and it was only 30+ something with shipping, I had my box in 2 days! My pigs LOVE it, pellets, hay and meadow grass. I love that I'm saving alot of money, buying in bulk, and not supporting pet stores anymore by buying from them. I had looked into getting the same from KM's, but they are WEST coast, and anyone on the EAST coast I would highly recommend Sweet Meadow Farm. I will be ordering my pellets/hay/grass from them for the entire life of my piggers!!!

I can "rustle" the hay/grass in the litterbox, and my pigs come running, they know that I'm putting out fresh and will go nuts over it. They have unlimited, but I put in fresh everyday!

Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

Y'all yankees! I didn't have much choice about the shipping cost but the day I got my surprize piggies I placed an online order with Sweetmeadow. We got that grab-bag with the 5 bags of hay and a big bag of pellets. Good stuff.

Timothy doesn't like to grow within 300 miles of my place on the Gulf coast so I am resigned to pay shipping anyway. When I saw postings about the 3rd cut timothy from Kleenmama I placed an order straight way. East Coast or West, the shipping was a much as the order but the total cost per pound is still less than bags from the 'box-mart'.

My folks have retired to Florida but are still big Sox fans as are the in-laws. So Duff, I see you own up to actually living in Vermont, but may I ask where abouts? I've done a bunch of the flat-lander touristie bits but I am just curious.

My pigs and rabbit LOVE SweetMeadow hay. It's so fresh and it smells so good. And as a bonus, it's not very expensive at all. I've had a 36 pound box since July and it's not even half way done.

Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

Is the quality of Sweetmeadow hay and pellets as good as Kleenmama's? I've been using Kleenmama's bluegrass hay and alfalfa pellets (for my nursing mamas and babies) and they really seem to love it. I've read over and over how KM's are just about the best quality out there. But I'm in TN and if Sweetmeadow is pretty much the same quality, I'd like to give them a try once my current stash is close to running out...

I am in the central part. Have you have been to Manchester (VT) area? We are not far from there. We are a rare breed, natives -born here ! My husband's family has been here since the 1700s ! Farming up in the mountains.

Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

I just got my order of Kleemamas pellets in and my boys LOVE them already. I put 1/4 cup in their bowls and they were gnawing on the when I left. So for those that are wondering about their pellets they are awesome.!

Nothing will beat the quality of KM's pellets as she formulated her pellets with good nutrition in mind due to the many low quality brands on the market.

Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

Thanks, Ly...I do know my piggies LOVE the KM alfalfa pellets they are eating right now - both mamas and all 3 babies gobble them up. I haven't tried the timothy ones yet. I have some Oxbow Cavy Cuisine left over from before I realized my pigs were pregnant, so once they're done nursing I'll use that up and then probably get some KM timothy pellets.

What about the Sweetmeadow hay? I haven't yet checked the price difference between ordering from there and from KM, but if it will save me a significant enough amount of money, is their hay comparable to KM's? If not, I'll keep using KM's...even with the large shipping charge, volume for volume it's MUCH MUCH cheaper than the Oxbow bags of hay from the pet store.

Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

Christy - KM is Kleenmama (as in Kleenmama's Hayloft).

Well, I just checked Sweetmeadow's website and it looks like buying hay from there is virtually the same cost as buying from KM's for me (I guess TN is far enough from the east coast that shipping was pretty comparable), so I'll just stick with KM's.

Sweetmeadow Farm is available online as is KM (Kmshayloft). It is not so much the cost of the product as it is the shipping that most members are looking at. Both have good hay and pellets. I am not sure which would be cheaper for you as far as shipping, but do check them both out !

Sweet Meadow is the name of the farm where you order it from? Is that what you meant?

Sweet Meadow's "meadow grass", I think it's about the same, I had bought some from petsmart before I got my order from Sweet Meadow, and it looks basically the same, the quality and smell is better though, it's softer and not as hard as timothy hay, my Pepe loves it!!!!

Sweet Meadow has a meadow hay which is more like a thin grass than the thicker blades like timothy and KM's bluegrass. It isn't the only meadow hay out there.
