Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

As soon as I get my piggie, she's going on a Sweet Meadow Farms diet... that is is Sweet Meadow is still up and running. No thanks to an irate neighbor, the local zoning board in Sherborn, Massachusetts has placed a cease and desist order on Sweet Meadow's pet foods operation! (If you'd like to know more, go to Sweet Meadow's website.)
I like being able to support a local(ish) business, and this really puts a thorn in my side, especially because this is a family-owned business that produces organic products.

There are different varieties of meadow hays just as there are different varieties of timothy and other hays. Sweet Meadow is a brand name.

Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

I was thinking of ordering some hay online-seems cheaper than buying Oxbow at my pet store-what do you store large amounts in?

Christy-- I am also in MI (near Detroit), and I have ordered from both Sweet Meadow and Kleenmama's. I personally prefer the quality (as do my pigs, as best as I can tell) of Kleenmama's, and the shipping is about the same either way. From Kleenmama's, I store the hay in the box it comes in, though I take the plastic bag out.

Can you buy from Sweet Meadow now? It looks like they are shut down for now due to zoning and nosy neighbors!

Yes, you can order now, I just got my shipment last Thursday....I just love when packages come to the house, especially when it's for my pigs.

Re: Sweetmeadow Hay/Pellets - East Coast members

One of our local Agways here in Connecticut, (I live on the Massachusetts line, not far away from Springfield) they sell a LOT of different feed for animals, guinea pigs included. Believe it or not, Tractor Supply Store carries Oxbow from time to time! Getting back to what I was going to say though, I've found the Sweet Meadow brand to be my piggies' favorite and makes it a LOT less sneezy and sniffly than regular Oxbow Timothy Hay.

Just placed my 1st order with KM's-a small order-this way I can see how the girls like it-wasnt to bad in proce either-Even with shipping, it should be cheaper than getting the smaller bag of Oxbow from the pet store.

I got the impression (though I could be wrong) that the problem was their food. I'm not sure if hay falls in that category as well or if it's just the pellets. Either way this is such a shame that a family business is threatened due to such (what seems to be) silliness. I hope that even if they aren't allowed to continue making their pellets that they will still be able to sell their hay.

I haven't ordered from them in some time since I and my pigs got sucked in to KM's But when I did order from them I was very pleased with their speed and quality. It a nice, cost effective option for us in the Northeast who need/want to save on shipping and still get a nice product.
