Why won't they eat?

Hi, My Guinea pigs won't eat their pellets and I don't know why. I just adopted them and I don't know what kind of food they had previously. They love their veggies and timothy hay but they just leave their pellets. I feed them the Organic Oxbow Food for guinea pigs.

Re: Why won't they eat?

I'm not too sure on the Oxbow Organic stuff as it has some questionable ingredients. I'd recommend the Cuisine or Performance (which one depends on age). Pellets are the least part of the diet so I wouldn't be too worried right now if they aren't eating them. They probably had some other food and aren't used to these pellets. Just make sure they have unlimited grass hay and slightly increase the veggies and give a variety of veggies.

Re: Why won't they eat?

Thanks Ly&Pigs! And what do you mean by questionable ingredients? I read the ingredients list and it I didn't see anything bad looking. Oh well I'm a not an expert. Do you have any tips for introducing it to them.

Re: Why won't they eat?

It may be a while before they catch on that it's food just because they haven't had it before. When I got my piggies they were on crap food and I didn't want to buy any just because it is what they were used to, so I switched my guys "cold turkey." It took nearly a week for them to give it a try, but they did eventually start socking it down just fine.

Thank you for adopting, and I hope you enjoy your cavies!

Re: Why won't they eat?

Read over this post I made a few months ago regarding the Oxbow organic. It will explain what I am talking about.
