Baby Guinea Pig

Okay, so my whole family goes into Pet Smart to purchase dog food. Meadow my 8 year old wants to just *hold* a Guinea Pig. (We have two cavies already with a C & C cage-females) (No we do NOT purchase a Guinea Pig)

BUT the lady says, "We have a Guinea Pig in the back we are giving away. Would you like to see him?" She explains on the way that one of their females was pregnant and they didn't know it and that they had already given away the other two. This little fellow is tiny. I have no idea where his mom was. He was being kept alone. We couldn't resist and brought him home. We have him set up in his own cage. He is way smaller than our girls were when we got them. I explained to Meadow that he may not even make it being so little. He is not near our other girls.

So far he is doing really well. He is eating fresh Kleenmama 3rd cut Timothy hay with some Oxbow Alfalfa hay mixed in with it and Oxbow Cavy Cuisine Pellets (we ran out of Kleenmama pellets). Is there anything else we should do for this little guy? I have no clue how old he is.

Thanks

Re: Baby Guinea Pig

I would suggest a vet visit and not taking your 8 year old to petsmart.
No, but seriously, if he looks tiny enough not to make it, a vet visit might be what he needs. He could have mites, a URI, or God knows what else.
Please keep us updated.
