Is it OK to feed daily? How does it compare to the other kinds of lettuce? |

There are a lot of types of heirloom lettuces. As long as it's not a variety of iceburg, it's ok to feed. |

Thanks, Ly, but how do I know if it's a variety of iceberg? All it says on the packaging is "Heirloom lettuce". |

If it looks like leafy lettuce, it's ok. If it looks more like Iceburg would look, then don't buy it. |

It has been my experience that "heirloom lettuce" can be most any leaf-type lettce that is slow to bolt (go to seed) and are east to maintain for home gardeners. With heirloom type a body can save the seed to plant again next season. "Heirloom lettuce" can mean most any type, usually looseleaf from oak leaf, black seeded simpson or amish deer tongue and all the bibb type to romaine types. I like the looseleaf myself because once the plant gets up in size I can start harvesting the outer leaves without killing the entire plant. Romaines and head lettuce is not that forgiving. I've been gardening ever since I was a little peanut back in Georgia but I have only had my cavies since mid August. |
