Re: What are the best pellets to buy ?

My order of timothy hay, meadow grass, and pellets will be here Friday, from Sweet Meadow, YAYYYY! I'm saving so much money, and thank goodness I don't HAVE to buy from Petno or Petstupid anymore!! Where I was paying 13.99 for one small bag of Cavy Cuisine pellets!!!

I can't wait, because of this forum and the cavy savy members here helping me! I hope my piggies love it, as I'm loving saving the money and not having to run to the store once a week for hay! The twice weekly veggie run is enough, HA!

We happen to use Kaytee Timothy Complete because it is timothy-based and relatively cheap compared to some of the other timothy-based foods. I know it's not the best place to shop, but we get it from our local petstore. They have a pretty decent variety of pig foods.
You are right that they need a plain pellet, but we don't endorse any Kaytee foods here as they are full of fillers, bad ingredients, and a potentially cancer causing preservative called ethoxyquin. Kaytee/Animal Planet are not good pellets. Petstores do not carry a decent variety of cavy foods unless you are buying junk that is low quality with the exception of Oxbow. Cheap pellets=cheap ingredients=possible health problems later down the road=vet visit.

Re: What are the best pellets to buy ?

I just ordered my rat and guinea pig food from petfooddirect.com. Its 13 dollars per 5 pounds at Petsmart, so its def. cheaper to buy in bulk. i was going to order from sweet meadows or KMs but I also need my rat food, soo i just went ahead and ordered them together. Petfooddirect will also send coupons to your email, so the coupon they sent me took 13 percent off my order, which it all adds up!

Im glad Im not the only one excited when I have food coming in the mail! I feel like Im treating myself. haha. I also make the every other day run to walmart for greens. :/ Maybe if it came in the mail it would be more exciting! haha! I wanted to order from sweet meadows, but I have to cater to my rats as well.

Thanks for the info, Ly My mom suggested we switch to Kaytee when the store we go to was out of Oxbox pellets. I told her that I needed to read about whether I should feed them Kaytee, as I wasn't sure if it was a good quality food. Now I know, thank goodness.
