Does this sound like a good diet of three pigs? They get unlimited timothy and/or bluegrass hay. They get 1/2 cup of oxbow pellets. In the morning for veggies they get 20-40 sprigs of cilantro, 3 big/ 6 small leaves of romaine lettuce, and about six leaves of basil. In the afternoon for veggies they get 3/4 of a green pepper, 3 baby carrots, 3 leaves of green leaf lettuce, and 1 cup of spring mix. Last edited by Paula; 06-30-09 at 01:37 pm. It sounds great for what you feed daily. Do you add in other veggies occasionally too? Pigs really like variety, so I recommend switching things up a bit. Cucumber, tomatoes, zucchini, green beans, a little fruit, and corn husks are good things to add in. |

When introducing new veggies you typically have to feed a little bit at a time and take it out when it gets old. It may take weeks or months, but they do eventually start eating them. What you're doing now sounds great for daily food though. |

Sounds great to me. I also agree Mix it up a little. With it being summer you should try some watermelon, just a small amount. When its really hot out I give my pigs about a 1 inch cube each and they LOVE it. |

I wouldn't feed basil every day but more like once a week or so. For bell pepper, I'd do about 1/8 - 1/4 per pig and only 1 baby carrot at most per pig per day. |

Those are the amounts she is feeding. She has three pigs. |

If those are the amounts for all three pigs instead of per pig, it's fine. The original post didn't make a distinction, so I wasn't sure. |

Can they eat the peel/skin of cucumbers or do you need to peel it? Hippie has only had it once and liked it but I peeled it. So I was wondering if you had to or if they could just eat it? |

They can eat the peel of cucumber. Just wash it well before feeding. I'd also add in a bit more variety from time to time. Last edited by Ly&Pigs; 07-03-09 at 03:12 pm. |
