Baby pig nutrition!

So, I am planning on adopting a four-week-old piggie. She will have Alfalfa-based pellets and Alfalfa hay while in quarantine. However, I don't want my other piggie to eat the Alfalfa hay (they are going to be living together after the first two to three weeks). Somebody recommended cilantro. What else can I give her that's acceptable for the older piggie to eat but would provide her with the nutrients found in Alfalfa hay. My other piggie is a year and four months old.

Re: Baby pig nutrition!

Cilantro is not high in calcium. You can feed her separately.

Re: Baby pig nutrition!

It's really not necessary to have alfalfa hay and alfalfa pellets. You should have one or the other but make sure you have grass hay as well. Alfalfa is not a replacement for regular hay, it's just an added suppliment. Cilantro should be fed daily and is not very high in calcium. You can feed Parsley during lap time each day so that your other pigs don't get to much of it. Also Kale is a good one. Look in the diet/nutrition charts for more veggies with more calcium. You can use those veggies when the piggy is in with the others.

Also quarantine should be a full three weeks.

Thanks for asking this question. I came here today to ask this!
Looks like i may be getting a younger cavy soon, and my Ralphie is 2 and a half...

So It would be ok if i fed a >6 month old the Oxbow Cavy Cusine?

As long as you supplement his diet with high calcium veggies during laptime. Since he's younger, he needs the extra calcium.
