I bought some beefsteak tomatoes at the farmer's market this morning, and gave the piggies a piece each. It seems one of the piggies, I couldn't tell which one, is peeing a bright red urine today. I doubt at all it's blood. I know red peppers can cause red pee, but the piggies get (roma, cherry or grape)tomatoes every day and I've never seen red pee like that. Any thoughts? |

Is the pig with the red urine squeeling also? When my guinea pig had red urine, I took her to the vet right away. The vet said that she had a Uniary Tract Infection. After giving her antibiotics, the squeeling and red urine went away. I now give her Cranberry Juice through a needleless syringe (orally) and also an Acidophilus & Digestive Tract Conditioner. (Which you can get from "Drs.Foster & Smith" on the internet.) So, perhaps your pig has the same thing. |

Thanks Cristi for the thoughtful reply. And the UTI information is helpful. We've had experience with UTI and still keep some Metacam and antibiotics on hand too No, none of the suspects are squealing, except for food. I'm hoping Ly might shed some light? |

My opinion would be that if you've been feeding tomato for a long time and have never seen the urine red from tomato before, then it's not likely to be from tomato now. Have you seen it since? You may want to put each pig on a white towel/washcloth for a bit to see who is doing it. |
