Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
So I now have 5 beautiful piggies. They are all between 5 months and 1 year old. What I would like to know is how do I know if I am giving them enough 'salad' at a time. I use the nutrition guide on this site as a wonderful guide. I even use the sample menus too. They get the salad twice a day like suggested. But I just have to wonder if they are getting enough food. Its not that they act like they are always hungry, (they have pellets and hay). I just want to make sure that my girls are getting enough of the 'piggie salad'. Thank you in advance for any and all help! |

Pigs need a full cup of veggies per day. You can split that up into two or three servings if you want to, as long as it's a cup per pig per day. As long as they are all eating pretty equally I wouldn't worry too much about each pig getting his/her fair share. What exactly are you feeding as far as veggies? |

Oh my, they are getting Romaine, Red Leaf and Green Leaf Lettuce basically daily. Carrots, Bell Peppers, Tomatoes, and Cilantro almost daily. Parsley, Red Bell Peppers, Cucumber, Cabbage, and the all fav Corn on the cob a couple times a week. Spinach, Broccoli, Thyme, Dill once maybe a twice a week. I've tried to give the girls Brussle Sprouts, Raddishes, Cauliflower, Celery, Zucchini, Kale and they wouldnt touch them. I throw some fruit in the salad for them maybe 3 times a week. I'm sure I'm forgetting things in there. I just wanted to make sure they were getting enough cause it seems like they inhale the 'salads'. |

It's actually good for them. : ) The only problem I believe, and do correct me if I am wrong, is that like us humans, they cannot digest corn so well. |

Corn on the cob (or off the cob) is a treat, which I believe should be limited to once a week or so. The husks can be fed daily and count as "forages". |

For Corn on the cob, does it have to be cooked or not cooked? |

Not cooked. It's fine as a weekly treat or so. SFailed - raw corn is easier for them to digest than what you'd find ground up in some not-so-great pellets. |

No more than 1/2 an ear of fresh corn on the cob for 2-3 pigs once a week is best. It's not something that is actually good for them. It can, however, be used as a treat. Corn is starchy and sugary and isn't easily digested. Husks and silks can be fed daily and is a good forage. |

I thought Ly said "No more than 1/2 an ear of fresh corn on the cob for 2-3 pigs once a week is best." That looks like the whole ear. |

They didn't even eat 1/8 of it LOL! They just kinda ate a few rows at each end and lost interest. It was cute while they were eating it though. |
