Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0 I looked at the food chart a couple minutes ago and noticed Watermelon. I'm eating Watermelon right now and I'm just wondering how much I should give Lucky. I know that Watermelon is 1-2 times a week (according to the food chart) but how much should I give her every time I do give it to her? Picture would be nice. |

I think the chart says 100 grams. I simply, don't feed many fruits at all. I do feed them, but sparingly. |

A bite sized chunk or so would be appropriate for your pig, not more than once or twice per week, if even that much. |

Oops... I gave her like three big chunks... Is she going to be fine or should I be worried about anything? |

It's probably fine, but in the future, just a bite sized chunk is better. She probably appreciates the larger chunks! |

Ok. Thanks for all your help(: And, she did enjoy it. Very much. You should have seen her!!! There was a small piece hanging out of her mouth and it was dripping all over her chest! (it's white) I'll take a picture next time I feed her some(: |

Mine like the watermellon, but they're not crazy about it but my one girl will just about do backflips for the rind. Whenever we have watermellon now she starts wheeking and running around until we give them rinds. It's so cute! |

The nutritional information posted is for 100g servings, but the number of times to feed per week does not mean the number of 100g servings. To get an idea of amounts, the best thing to do is to look over the sample menus for veggies (or ask, as you've done here). |

My girls go crazy over watermelon too. I think they used to smell it when I was eating it. I would give each a very small chunk in order to give as a treat at another time. |

It was mentioned about eating the rind, but would that be restricted to the amount per week also? Just wondering if alright to feed rind with small amount of fruit still on it? Thank you for your response. |

The 100grams sizes are NOT serving sizes. They are merely for reference. You can give rind with a small bit of fruit attached. It's great on hot summer days and when it's frozen. I wouldn't really feed it more often than just the watermelon itself though, maybe 2-3 times a week. |

This is how I do rind in the summer if I have watermelon. I will take strips of rind about 1" wide and about 4-5" long and freeze them. Then 2 or 3 times a week, I will take a strip out and let it thaw just slightly then give it to the girls. It's not because of sugar that it's not given more but I can't imagine the rind being all that nutritious for them. The fruit is what contains the actual sugar. Quote:

I find it very helpful on Ly's chart that she put 100 grams = 3.6 oz. My scale only does ounces so that's how I weigh portions. |
