Not Ranked. Helpful AND tactful post? : 0
Hello I adopted three piglets in January and that came with a large box of Kleenmama's hay and a big box of pellets. I got my first order of pellets and was satisfied and no questions as pellets are pellets. The hay I got that came with the pigs I believe was 2 nd or 3rd cut timothy hay with nothing else. I understand that 2nd cut and 3rd cut are more leafy and less course and better for pigs. So I got 3rd cut timothy but I opeted for 1/2 be bluegrass. I just thought it would give more variety and the pigs are eating it. The bluegrass feels a bit on the course side. and was wondering what you all think of bluegrass. It looks really good and the pig's seem to like it I was just curious. Another question as I have gone through a lot of the original timothy hay. There are patches where it is a lot of straw and blade grass and then sometimes I pull out and it's very very soft small pieces of grass. I ask because since it's so soft and and has small pieces it ends up on the floor of the cage getting peed on or it ends up outside the cage where I try to put it back in the hay rack. Just wondering if there is a better way to keep it or maybe put it in the bowl with pellets or something?? |

Pigs prefer the longer strands, so the really small pieces probably won't get eaten even if you put them in a bowl. I think the bluegrass hay is excellent (and my pigs agree). It's one of the better choices for people who are allergic to timothy hay as well. |

Okay that is what mainly ends up on the floor. It really looks more like bedding anyway so I guess it's not a loss . Is their more or less of the small stuff in 2nd cut or 3rd cut. Which is better in your opinion I have nothing to compare it to. |

Never tried bluegrass, however my piggies love bermudagrass. It's not as leafy as the timothy I use to buy, but the smell is fantastic. |
