Problems growing wheatgrass

I am having a problem keeping wheatgrass growing. I am trying to grow it inside (near a window, so it gets plenty of sunlight) in about an inch of dirt in a tray. I planted the seeds and the wheatgrass grew fine at first. Within a week it was several inches tall, so I cut it, leaving about an inch, and fed it to the piggies. Over the next week, only about half of the grass grew back, and a lot of it is dead. I cut the grass again, and now hardly any of it is growing back. What am I doing wrong? (I am keeping it watered regularly).

Re: Problems growing wheatgrass

Sorry, I've never grown it myself so I can't be of any assistance. Maybe someone will come along who has grown it before and can help you.

Re: Problems growing wheatgrass

I always encounter this with wheat grass. It usually only sprouts once and then you have to re-grow a whole new fresh batch. It's not you it's the wheat grass. You can grow it on paper towels in some type of dish/cup. I usually use a ceramic plant saucer to grow mine but I use a little bit of dirt. I think there was a thread on here at some. If I find the disscussion i'll post the link.

Re: Problems growing wheatgrass

I'm afraid you'd have to keep sprouting new batches. That's just the way it is. I've also gotten two cuts at the most.
