Blue Seal Piggy Feed? I got a new pig yesterday, named Smudge, and I was wondering, is Blue Seal Feed alright? That was what he was fed in his previous home. I know Blue Seal makes good feed, but I was wondering if their guinea pig food was good.

Re: Blue Seal Piggy Feed? No, it's not a good pellet. I already know the ingredients. Too many fillers, high amount of salt, also contains brewers yeast and dried bacterias. Alfalfa based but made with alfalfa meal not alfalfa hay.

Re: Blue Seal Piggy Feed? You commented on another thread about guinea pig pellets that the only ones that were suitable were Mazurri, Sweet Meadow (which I have no idea about myself but that is beside the point), Oxbow and Kleenmama. So I would assume that you know that these ones (or atleast Mazurri, Oxbow and Kleenmama) are suitable and therefore you should have no questions about guinea pig pellets? Either way, you should swap him onto a higher quality pellet. Oxbow and Kleenmama are top notch pellets. They can be ordered online (safely too), though Oxbow can be found in some stores. I have heard they are selling them in PetSmart now, and although I would not support a petstore it may be an option for you. When you do swap you can go cold turkey or slowly swap him over.

Re: Blue Seal Piggy Feed? Actually it's best to do a slow switchover [usually over the course of 2-3 weeks or so], so as not to upset the pig's stomach/internal balance.

Re: Blue Seal Piggy Feed? Depends. Some pigs do fine if you go cold turkey. It is often recommended if the pig is on a really really bad pellet to get them off it asap.

Re: Blue Seal Piggy Feed? I read that pigs aren't like dogs and cats and that switching pellets cold turkey wouldn't be a big deal. It makes sense seeing as though most their diet is usually hay and fresh veggies. My pigs only munch on their pellets every now and then.

Re: Blue Seal Piggy Feed? I switched Abby cold turkey from Nature's Promise Zupreem to Oxbow's Cavy Performance with no problems. The first day I actually tried mixing a tiny pinch of the Oxbow in with the old stuff. She sifted through the cruddy pellets and picked out the Oxbow.

Re: Blue Seal Piggy Feed? When I first got the kids I had bought Kaytee pellets. When the Oxbow came in the mail I switched it right out cold turkey without any problems

The reason I was asking was because i had never thought that Blue Seal made guinea pig food. I had known that they made other animal foods, but never thought they made guinea pig food. Plus, i hadn't heard of anyone talking abou tit on the forum so I thought I would ask. |
