Hay question

I have found a place where I can get a 60-70lb bale of 2nd cut timothy hay for $3 and Grass 60lb bail for $2.50 so I am considering buying 1 bail of each and mixing them for my piggies rather than the small 20oz bags of hay I get from my local feed store. My question is this..I am thinking about filling my 2X4 top with all hay and changing it as needed. My lower cage is a 4X5 and I am currently using newspaper layers covered by fleece on top so I dont think I want to put hay there but then again I would if it would make the piggies happier. Anyone have any thoughts on this for me?

Re: Hay question

I'm sure it would make your piggies happier! It's like swimming in pizza or icecream for us! :-p But you'd have to change it pretty often, every other day or every day since it starts to smell pretty bad when it's all wet.

Re: Hay question

I agree-- sounds great, but you'll have to change it frequently. Also, it's not as absorbent so you may want to put something underneath (like newspaper perhaps).

Haha, I'm sure they did! It's like having all of your favorite foods served fresh, mmm.
