Recently, I switched my Scarlettes Hay from Kaytee to Oxbow, and she doesn't eat the Western Timothy as much as the Kaytee. Is this normal? Should I go back to Kaytee Timothy, or should I wait it out? |

Hmm, thats interesting, are you sure the hay your buying from oxbow is fresh? DOes it smell fresh and is it green? Recently an interesting topic has been brought up about oxbow in the kitchen. Maybe you should check it out. I would wait a week and if he doesn't pick up in his eating of hay maybe you could try KMs. Is he eating his veggies? Maybe he's sick??? Anorexia could be a sign of bad teeth or a number or other things. I wouldn't go back to kaytee though. |

When I switched from pet store oxbow to km hay it took a bit for the piggers to start really going to town on it. At first I took out all the oxbow and replaced with the KM hay and they just stared at it like "whats this?" so after almost a full day of not see'ing them eat any hay I changed it to like a 50/50 oxbow/KM to get them back interested in it. After a couple days of half and half mix they had eaten plenty of the KM to know how good it was and were more then happy to eat that by itself. Now I actually have left over oxbow that I throw into there "play hay" pile and they wont touch it they pick thru to get the bright green KM pieces if they feel like a snack while playing. So they may just not trust it yet cause its new. |

No, shes eating her pellets, and veggies quite fine, and the oxbow smells like hay.. I literally just took her to the vet around 4 days ago, and she was cleared healthy. I just don't think she likes the oxbow hay. |

I'd give it a week or two. Piggies are fickle creatures, they don't like change. |

I've been looking around to see which stores in my area carry hay. I've noticed that the kaytee looks greener than the oxbow...I'm going to order KM online once I figure out storage. |

Lol! Your piggie sounds like my cat. Charlie's favorite toy is a noisy, small, crumpled up piece of paper. He's even a bit slow to react to catnip sometimes! Go figure. XD Anyways, I would feel most comfortable going w/ what Piper said. Thats sorta like how we convert piggies, dogs, cats, etc. to a new food, so perhaps your piggies would prefer a gradual adjustment. Don't go back to Kaytee unless its all you have in an emergency. : ) |
