If I give my Guinea Pig Oxbow's Cavy Cuisine and carrots and cucumber and Oxbow timothy hay everyday will they get enough vitamin C?

Re: vitamin C

Carrot and cucumber are bad choices for daily veggies overall. Carrots have to be limited and they contain hardly any C and cucumber can't be fed daily because it's too high in water and low in nutritional value. So the answer would be that it's very doubtful your pig would get the C they need with these veggies. Veggies need to be given in a variety on a daily basis. One or two things really don't cut it.

You can't really trust the C in pellets because it does degrade with light and oxygen exposure.

Re: vitamin C

A fantastic source for daily vitamin C is one-quarter of a green bell pepper (divided into two servings, one in the morning and one in the evening) per pig.

Re: vitamin C

Kiwi is good for Vitamin C too, but it's quite acidic so they might not eat it. Bell pepper is the best way to go.

Romaine is good lettuce, but green or red leaf is better.

A typical diet for my pigs includes romaine, green, and/or redleaf lettuce, bell pepper of any color, celery, cucumber, carrot, tomato, cilantro, basil, parsley, strawberries, artichoke.

That's what I typically have in my fridge for them, and things go into rotation as directed by Ly's food chart.

Re: vitamin C

Ditto ly. Carrots are a treat. Cucumber is mostly water.

You need to feed dark leafy greens. Romaine is fine but you need to feed more than that. At least 3 different kinds of veggies each day. Alternate out.

Green or red leaf lettuce is good too. Endive, escarole, cilantro. Spinach and parsley sometimes. Bell peppers are high in vit C too.

There is a veg list in one of the stickies.
